Overview

Assist in hygiene promotion and WASH facility construction

You have:

  • 2 years’ experience from working in a humanitarian/recovery context, ideally in Community Mobilization
  • University degree in social science, public health, environment, or water supply
  • Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market-based programmes
  • Possession of geographical experience of the region
  • Basic knowledge of English language is an advantage

Purpose of the Job

The purpose of WASH Assistant-Hygiene Promotion position is to work closely with community /school students to promote Hygiene practices, construction of WASH facilities at community/School level and to reduce the risk of communicable diseases related to water and sanitation by promoting hygiene practices and conducting hygiene awareness sessions at Community/School level.

Generic responsibilities

  • Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
  • Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
  • Ensure proper filing of documents
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function

Specific responsibilities:

  • Responsible to carry out community and school level WASH assessments
  • Develop hygiene training materials and prepare methodology and agenda for the implementation of hygiene awareness sessions
  • Conduct schools and community level hygiene practices sessions and training's.
  • Prepare/ contribute to technical assessments related to WASH (Latrine, bore wells, hand-washing facilities etc.).
  • Contribute to technical direction and ensure high technical quality of projects
  • Monitor WASH activities regularly and within the agreed period
  • Responsible for raising purchase requisitions (PRs), and distribution of hygiene materials
  • Work under the direct supervision of WASH officer/Coordinator to conduct hygiene promotion trainings, awareness sessions and community mobilizations.
  • Actively Participate in conduction of KAP-1 (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice 1) and KAP-2 (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice 2) surveys, as result analysis.
  • Monitor the WASH activities and the impact of the sensitizing sessions by KAP-1 (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice 1) and KAP-2 (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice 2) surveys,
  • Organize and deliver the hygiene promotion sessions for target populations (Community and School)
  • Contribute to implement Cleaning campaigns (including community mobilization, community sessions, house-to-house visits,) from planning, to implementation and monitoring
  • Monitor proper hygiene practice among beneficiary and their motivation.
  • Distribute the hygiene kits to the targeted beneficiaries and keeping documents of distribution
  • Carry out children hygiene promotion activities in schools.
  • Assist the WASH Coordinator on supervision of water and sanitation and other construction activities
  • Produce reports regularly as per the project requirement
  • Contribute to any other Hygiene Promotion activity implementation
  • Implement other tasks assigned by the supervisor

Qualification

  • 2 years’ experience from working in a humanitarian/recovery context, ideally in Community Mobilization
  • Knowledge of cash-based interventions and market based programmes
  • Possession of the geographical experience of the region

Education

  • University degree in (social science, public health, environment, water supply)

Language

  • Pashto
  • Dari
  • English (Basic knowledge of English language is an advantage)
