The Opportunity – WASH Assistant

Post location: Gaza Field Office - Rafah and subject to change based on SC priorities and response in Gaza.

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: until 31st December 2024, with a possibility of extension based on available funds.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The WASH Assistant will support the WASH Manager and WASH Officer in the overall objectiveof the construction / rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: WASH Manager

Staff reporting to this post: TBD

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITIES:

· Assist in the construction and rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities and ensuring

that the construction is of the highest quality and as per original design.

· To collect data and provide updated information on financial and administrative status of

WASH activities of the project for analysis and report purposes.

· To assist in monitoring of water quality through continual testing and undertaking activities

to address poor quality.

· To give input for project progress reports on the progress of activities and challenges faced.

· To conduct any other duties as required from WASH Manager or Officer to assist the

WASH Team in the construction of the system.

· Ensure a constant supply of clean and safe water to the surgical platform.

· To assist in further purchasing, design changes and coordination with other WASH

counterparts.

Capacity Building:

· Identify learning and training opportunities for project staff and work as a mentor and role

model for less experienced staff.

Representation & Advocacy & Organisational Learning:

· Ensure that Save the Children's work is coordinated with efforts of other agencies and

Government, and support Interagency Coordination forums, advocating for the specific needs

of children. This may involve supporting coordination working groups.

· With support from the lead WASH Adviser and/or other senior programme staff, assist in

advocacy activities that target decision-makers in-country.

· Contribute to communications and media work as required.

General:

· Deliver high quality results in line with the terms of reference agreed in advance – to do this in

a way which maintains the reputation of the Humanitarian Department.

· Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child safeguarding, code of

conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

· To perform such other responsibilities as agreed with your line management.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

Essential

· Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or related field.

· Working experience in a technical field related to WASH.

· Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and time management skills.

· Computer literacy in MS Office.

· At least 2 years of technical experience in NGO – Preferably INGO.

· Familiarity with the International Humanitarian operations, coordination structures and

mandates of donors and other NGOs.

· Cross cultural awareness and insight into multi-programming issues.

· Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions with limited supervision.

· Flexibility and ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations.

· Ability to relate to and motivate local staff effectively.

· Creative and able to work with limited resources.

· Team player and strong communication skills, both oral and written.

· Honest, hardworking and committed to community development.

· Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word and MS Excel. MS

PowerPoint is a plus.

· Basic oral and written English skills with ability to draft and edit program reports.

Desirable

· Language skills in Arabic and other local languages

· Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts

· Specific experience of designing and managing major donor projects

· Knowledge of consortia working

· Knowledge of consortia workingDESIRABLE:

  • Experience of working with NGO
  • Experience in emergency response
