ABOUT WFP

The World Food Programme (WFP) is the world's largest humanitarian agency fighting hunger worldwide and working in more than 80 countries. WFP is well known for its ability to deliver food assistance rapidly to people in need. In order to respond effectively in the challenging contexts in which WFP operates, staff require sound knowledge of the fundamentals of emergency and transition programming, as well as skills in specialized areas. WFP was the recipient of the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize awarded for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war".

The World Food Programme’s engagement in the Philippines is constantly evolving. Initially commencing operations in the 1960s, WFP officially re-established its presence in 2006 to support the peace process in Mindanao, to provide life-saving food assistance in emergencies and to develop programmes that seek to improve nutrition and the overall quality of life of vulnerable people. Since July 1stmid 2018, WFP has been implementing a five-year Country Strategic Plan (CSP 2018-2023) to support the Government of the Philippines to address food insecurity, reduce malnutrition and build the resilience of vulnerable populations. In its strategic plan, WFP identified four outcomes and five main activities:

• Strategic outcome 1: Crisis-affected people in the Philippines are able to meet their food and nutrition needs during and immediately after an emergency. • Strategic outcome 2: Women, boys and girls in provinces prioritized by the Government have adequate and healthy diets to reduce malnutrition by 2022 in line with government targets. • Strategic outcome 3: Vulnerable communities in Mindanao have improved food security and nutrition by 2022 in line with government targets. • Strategic outcome 4: National and local government agencies have enhanced capabilities to reduce vulnerability to shocks by 2022.

JOB PURPOSE

WFP Philippines is looking for volunteers who will assist the Partnerships & Communications and Donor Relations Unit.

BACKGROUND

The WFP Philippines Country Office promotes volunteerism to support humanitarian and development initiatives. Through the WFP Volunteer Program, WFP aims to provide valuable training to promising youth based in the Philippines, who are in their third or final year in college or university, or who have graduated within the last three years.

The internship may be applied to required training hours of the volunteers in pursue of their university degrees. Due to COVID-19, this will be a virtual internship completed remotely with in-person interactions limited to fully vaccinated volunteers.

Subject to the Memorandum on Conditions Governing Assignment as Vountary Assistant with the World Food Programme (WFP).

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Officer with overall supervision of the Country Director.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

• Provide graphic design and editorial support for the WFP Philippines’ communications team for all social media output on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and other platforms, to maintain and enhance WFP Philippines’ visibility and reputation • Work on layouts and typography to make communications content more appealing, distinct, fresh, and visually accessible (clean, easily legible, etc.) on all digital and traditional platforms • Support the communications team in the archiving and maintenance of a digital library of key messages and visual assets • Provide graphic design and visual support for the promotion of special events, to attract audiences, including potential funders • Other tasks as assigned by the team

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Third or in the final year of education in a Communications related program or have graduated in the last three years

Experience:

• Advanced computer literacy including advanced knowledge in the use of MS Word, Power Point and Excel • Proficient in standard graphic design software, including: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Canva • Exceptional writing skills with existing portfolio • Knowledge of other artistic skills (eg., music composition, visual art) that could be used to elevate and compliment visual media • In tune with contemporary aesthetic sensibilities • Comfortable with people and remote interactions

Language: Fluent written and oral English and Tagalog

• Previous experience working as a volunteer

• Demonstrated interest in creative extra-curricular activities on or off campus
