Result of Service OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES

GWOPA’s communications efforts aim to increase awareness and appreciation of WOPs, give visibility to GWOPA´s various programmes, project activities and results, and encourage participation in the Global WOPs Congress and other events organized by GWOPA and its partners. The objective of this consultancy is to support the aforementioned objectives through design, creation, and launch of visual content that is engaging, user-friendly and on GWOPA’s online channels – website (WordPress), social media channels, etc.

The consultant will give guidance to these inter-related areas of work, advising GWOPA on related strategies and good practices that will support update.

Work Location The consultancy is home-based with no travel requirements.

Expected duration The consultant shall work full time over a period of 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. Together with governments, the agency is responsible for promoting and consolidating collaboration with all partners, including local authorities, private and non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UN-Habitat leads the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA), which helps water and sanitation operators help one another. GWOPA is an international network created in 2009 to support operators through Water Operator’s Partnerships (WOPs) – not-for-profit peer support partnerships between water and sanitation operators aimed at enhancing their capacity and performance to provide a better service to more people in support of the SDGs. The GWOPA Secretariat is currently hosted by the Government of Germany.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance and overall supervision of the OiC of GWOPA, and in collaboration with the Communications and Database Consultants, the incumbent will produce visual content (banners, brochures, flyers) and launch them on GWOPA’s website and associated social media channels. In order to maximize impact, the consultant may have to modify or create the templates currently used on the website and ensure overall harmony and functionality. The consultant is expected to advise on good and common practice on visual communication to maximize impact of activities. The consultant will, as such, undertake the following main tasks:

Graphic Design -Graphically design WOP case studies using the template and text provided by the Secretariat -Graphically design knowledge products produced by the Secretariat and advise on ways to increase user-friendliness and uptake

Visual content creation -Create graphics and promotional graphics for the membership campaign with a focus on online dissemination, these may include short animations, social media banners, posts

Promotion and hosting of content -Migrate the content of the GWOPA’s website from the current web hosting server to the temporary and final servers -Rebuild the website according to the language of the new CMS software -Migrate the content from the developed Congress virtual venue to the GWOPA’s website -Adapt and update the Global WOPs Congress webspace and related pages to ensure all content is visible and accessible -In collaboration with the Knowledge Management and Database Consultants, ensure seamless flow between the revised WOPs database and the GWOPA website

Qualifications/special skills Competency: 1.Teamwork 2.Professionalism 3.Planning and Organizing Skills: Clear and mature style of design, demonstrating an understanding of the communication requirements of a UN agency. Good understanding of new and evolving technologies and digital platforms. Strong creative skills. Proven team-working ability. Academic Qualifications: A first level university degree in communication is required or another field deemed relevant to the subject areas.

Relevant technical training in Graphic Design or Web Development is also desirable however applicants with extensive experience in related fields will also be considered.

Experience: A minimum of four years of working experience is required in developing and managing websites with WordPress content manager.

Experience with UN projects is desirable.

Four years of experience in graphic design and visual communication are required, preferably with an international focus.

Knowledge of PHP and MySQL database, TypeScript or modern JavaScript. Language: Excellent English language is required, both understanding and writing skills.
