Result of Service Produce visual communications designs that can be used by the IIIM to enhance the understanding of the IIIM’s Mandate. Create impactful visual material that can be adapted for external communications. Expand the branding templates as necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities This position is within the Office of the Assistant Secretary General (OASG) of the International Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) to Assist in the Investigation and Prosecution of Persons Responsible for the Most Serious Crimes under International Law Committed in the Syrian Arab Republic since March 2011 (IIIM), located in Geneva, Switzerland.

The purpose of the consultancy is to contract an expert to provide visual design communications support. The contractor will be required to develop visual designs for use by OASG and the wider IIIM as needed for external communications and presentations. This contract helps meet the outreach and communications objectives as defined by the IIIM strategy and its mandate.

Reporting to the External Relations Officer (ERO) the individual contractor, working remotely, will be responsible for the following duties:

1. Support the development of design and communication material for the IIIM. 2. Take stock of current language, branding, existing materials, and messaging guidelines as used within the IIIM. 3. Conceptualise approaches for material and language for the IIIM’s stakeholders. 4. Support the ERO in development of communication and outreach products using engaging and accessible language. 5. Use established design tools (adobe illustrator, In-design, photoshop etc.) to contribute to expanding existing IIIM branding. 6. Develop and design compelling PowerPoint presentations, for use in English, Arabic, and other languages as relevant. 7. Ensure consistency in design and language use for both English and Arabic. 8. Ensure IIIM is kept updated of activities and progress and is informed of any changes to agreed timelines or deliverables. 9. Maintain record of all meetings internal or external to capture detailed record of project evolution.

Qualifications/special skills A first degree in design/communications/communication design/branding/creative design is required. A combination of academic qualifications and qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A minimum of five years’ experience in creative design environments is required Experience producing content and design for international audiences is required. Proven experience conceptualizing and designing material from dense or technical documents is required. Experience using design programs programs (Adobe Illustrator, In-Design, Photoshop, PowerPoint, etc.) is is required. Understanding needs of dual language design, with knowledge of Arabic is required. Track record in working across organisations to create innovative approaches in presenting workflows, ideas and information is desired. Demonstrated experience in producing short form audio visual content is desired. Demonstrated understanding of multi-format content for segmented audiences is desired. Experience translating technical information and material into accessible readable copy is desired. Experience working within an international organisation is desirable.

Languages The working languages of the Secretariat are English and French. For this position fluency in English and Arabic is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
