Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global authority on environmental matters, responsible for establishing the international environmental agenda and ensuring the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the UN framework. Its mission is to oversee the formulation of environmental policy consensus by continuously monitoring the global environment and alerting governments and the international community to emerging issues requiring action. As part of its mandate, UNEP has been a strong advocate for blended finance approaches to support climate action globally. In Indonesia, UNEP’s commitment for blended finance is being implemented through the Tropical Landscape Grant Fund (TLGF), a grant-making initiative helping sustainable land use ventures to improve their chances of securing private sector financing, in partnership with the Government of Canada. The initiative is managed by the Climate Finance Unit under the Adaptation and Resilience Branch of UNEP's Climate Change Division and contributes to the Government of Indonesia’s Medium-Term Plan Strategy. Indonesia urgently needs investments in sustainable land use, including financing of businesses that contribute to climate mitigation, rural livelihoods and women empowerment. However, developing sustainable business models is complex, resource-intensive, and requires a wide range of skills and capacities. As a result, too few new sustainable businesses are being created, limiting the contribution of the Indonesian private sector to meeting the country’s sustainable development goals. The Tropical Landscapes Grant Fund manages conventional grants to potential green businesses, mostly early-stage sustainable business ventures, to help them become bankable. It also facilitates the mobilization of investment capital by demonstrating the business case for investments at the nexus of gender and climate change and by building a market for gender responsive climate projects. TLGF was launched in May 2021 and runs until March 2027. UNEP is looking for a visual and media communication consultant to produce communications materials, with a focus on video and photo documentation, of TLGF, working closely with the UN Information Centre (UNIC), the UN Communication Groups (UNCG) and media experts across the UN in Indonesia. The consultant will work under supervision of TLGF National Project Manager and the Climate Finance Unit Communication Officer. The objective is to further increase TLGF's visibility and stakeholder awareness, while promoting UNEP’s blended finance work in Indonesia. The target audiences of the outputs are national and international stakeholders, ranging from the Government of Indonesia, donors, private sector and other partners.
