Job Description

Position Overview

The Alliance is seeking a Visiting Researcher to join the Performance, Innovation & Strategic Analysis for Impact (PISA4Impact) team. This role involves collaborating on research related to sustainable agricultural practices. The CGIAR Initiative on Agroecology is a transdisciplinary, participatory, and action-oriented approach aimed at enhancing food system resilience, equity, and sustainability. This specific study focuses on analyzing household survey data from diverse datasets.

The agroecological practices characterization survey provides quantitative data from 850 farmers in Peru's Ucayali region, specifically from the Padre Abad and Coronell Portillo districts. This survey disaggregates information at the plot level and includes details on agroecological practices and socioeconomic characteristics.

Responsibilities

In this initiative, the Visiting Researcher will:

  • Manage, clean, and harmonize variables from diverse datasets for the analysis of agricultural practices and their degree of "agroecologiness."
  • Prepare data cleaning and analysis reports.
  • Contribute to a peer-reviewed publication presenting the results of the analysis.
  • Collaborate with other researchers from the PISA4Impact team, who have multidisciplinary backgrounds.
  • Work on-site at the regional offices in Palmira.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and clean socio-economic datasets for the agroecology initiative.
  • Harmonize diverse datasets based on household surveys.
  • Support the writing of reports and scientific publications.

Requirements

  • Open to candidates of any nationality.
  • Master’s or PhD in Applied Economics or Statistics preferred.
  • Demonstrable experience with R and/or STATA.
  • Strong skills and expertise in statistical and econometric analysis.
  • Proficiency in data management, cleaning, and harmonization.
  • Fluency in Spanish and a good command of written English.
  • Ability to write reports and scientific publications effectively.

    The workstation will be regional offices of Palmira, Colombia. The researcher has to interact remotely with diverse scientists. The contract will start when a suitable candidate is found and will last for five months, subject to a test three-month period.
