Background Information - Job-specific

This internship position is located in the Client Support and Special Situations Section (CSSSS) in the Division for Special Activities (DSA) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS) at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

DOS was established to provide operational advisory services to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions.

DSA oversees a range of specialized or cross-cutting operational capacities. A large part of its responsibilities is to support start-up, surge, transition and liquidation requirements and to exercise authority on behalf of entities to which authority has not been granted owing to a lack of capacity or from which authority has been temporarily withdrawn.

Within DSA, CSSSS works with counterparts across DOS and other United Nations entities to effectively and rapidly support the deployment, establishment, transition and liquidation of client entities.

The intern will report to the Associate Administrative Officer.

Functional Responsibilities

1. Duties and Responsibilities

The Video Producer intern will be involved in and support the following duties:

•Assist in coordination of video production and distribution of stories

•Actively support supervisor in production and edition of the videos for training related to crisis preparedness and support

• Participate in drafting TV/video stories about that field

•Support in producing and arranging video interviews with UN officials, specialists, etc.;

•Support editing images and videos for in-reach and outreach activities

•Perform other duties, as may be reasonably required and in line with the incumbent’s scope of services above.

2. Training components and learning elements

Regular meetings with supervisor to monitor progress and task completion and to seek learning opportunities that the individual finds interesting to strengthen their skills in video editing, communication, image editing etc.

3. Participation in missions or training courses

The intern will be a part of the team and will be exposed to learning on the job on a daily basis. The intern will be able to participate in free training offered by UNOPS. Specific training of interest will be discussed with the intern upon arrival. No official travel for a mission is foreseen.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Academic qualifications

All applicants must be enrolled in a university programme such as Bachelor, Masters or PhD. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three (3) years prior to the application date of the internship.

The preferred education is in the area of communication, journalism, graphic design, mass media, digital communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field;

Language Skills

Fluency in written and spoken English is required

Knowledge of a UN language is highly desirable, but not required.

Computer Literacy

Computer/tech savvy is desired.

Video editing skills are desired.

Internship-related experiences

Video editing experience is highly desirable but not required

Experience in social media, mass media is highly desirable

Messaging and story-telling to different audiences (formal/informal etc.) is desired.

Contract type, level and duration - Internship

Contract type: Internship Contract level: N/A Contract duration: 6 months with possibility of extension based on performance and funds availability.

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
