**OVERVIEW** ------------ Parent Sector : Field Office Duty Station: Bangkok Job Family: Natural Sciences Type of contract : Non Staff Duration of contract : From 1 to 6 months Recruitment open to : External candidates Application Deadline (Midnight Paris Time) : 10-APR-2022 UNESCO Core Values: Commitment to the Organization, Integrity, Respect for Diversity, Professionalism **OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST** ----------------------------------------- **1. Background and Rationale** Coral reefs, one of the most biologically diverse and productive ecosystems, have been threatened by anthropogenic impacts, climate change and ocean acidification. Without biodiversity, the ecosystem will lose resilience and be unable to sustain the provision of goods and services. Hence, monitoring biodiversity and associated communities in coral reef ecosystem is essential for forecasting ecosystem vulnerability to disturbance. As part of the efforts in monitoring the ecological impacts of ocean acidification on coral reef ecosystem, the IOC Sub-Commission for the Western Pacific (WESTPAC) promotes the use of Autonomous Reef Monitoring Structures (ARMS) as a standard method to examine and monitor the most diverse community of organisms on a coral reef, the cryptobiota. The design of ARMS aims to simulate the structural complexity of a reef to attract colonizing marine invertebrates. The Standard Operating Procedures for ARMS could be found here ( ) Along with ARMS, Calcification Accretion Units (CAUs) are also used to evaluate how the changes of carbonate in seawater affect calcification and accretion rates of calcareous and fleshy algae. The principle is that the calcification rates of crustose coralline algae (CCA) are correlated to seawater aragonite saturation state. Predictions of reduced coral calcification rates imply that coral reef communities will experience ecological phase shifts as calcifying organisms are negatively impacted by fluctuating seawater chemistry. The Standard Operating Procedures for CAU could be found here () To meet the demands and develop capacity of Member States and their research institutions for monitoring ecological impact of ocean acidification on coral reefs, we would like to develop an audio-video material introducing the use and processing of ARMS and CAUs. The product will be shared widely with interested institutions in the region, and also ensure the data that could be collected and comparable over the long years. **Key Duties and Responsibilities** ----------------------------------- **2. The video shall cover and provide clear descriptions about field and laboratory operations in using ARMS and CAUs, including the assembly, deployment, recovery and processing methods. - To ensure the video to be produced with quality and in a user-friendly manner, the incumbent’s task shall embody, but not limited to, the following: - research and develop a full understanding of the work - develop creative concept, storyline and storyboard - write the script in English based on the recorded footages - edit the footages, develop visual elements (on-screen text, illustrations/animations etc.) to harmonize the footages and the content - Pre-production: - Deliver story/filming approach/concept - Production: - Deliver a script based on the briefing provided by IOC/WESTPAC - Put together the video based on the script approved by IOC/WESTPAC - Post-production - Edit the video clip to reflect the agreed upon ‘look’ and ‘feel’ of the final video, using appropriate music (the music should not infringe upon any rights; if copyrighted music is used, rights to the music should be secured by the Contractor) - Put English subtitles on the final video based upon the script approved by IOC/WESTPAC - Share video development progress to the IOC/WESTPAC team as per agreed schedule - Make revisions according to IOC/WESTPAC team’s feedback - Submit the final video in different formats (for TV, website, social media) by 31 August 2022. *In line with UNESCO’s overall gender mainstreaming strategy, the consultant is expected to integrate a gender perspective in all activities and apply gender mainstreaming concepts whenever feasible.* **COMPETENCIES (Core / Managerial)** ------------------------------------ Accountability (C) Communication (C) Innovation (C) Knowledge sharing and continuous improvement (C) Planning and organizing (C) Results focus (C) Teamwork (C) **-** ----- For detailed information, please consult the [UNESCO Competency Framework](https://en.unesco.org/sites/default/files/competency_framework_e.pdf). **3.
