Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

UN-Habitat has recently signed a UN-to-UN agreement with UNEP to implement the project “Inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable development in urban areas hosting Syrian refugees in Jordan and Turkey” on behalf of the UNEP in Jordan. The project aims to strengthen the capacities of local and national authorities to pursue inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable development in urban areas hosting Syrian refugees in Jordan. The project will work to change the current fragmented and short-term approaches to sustainability and environmental objectives by providing government, humanitarian and NGO actors on national and local levels new tools, knowledge, and skills to strengthen urban governance and integrate long-term sustainability and environmental priorities into their work. Indeed, an expected outcome of the project is the enhanced capacity of institutional actors in national and local government in Jordan to operationalize strategies, action plans and guidance for resilience, sustainable development, and COVID-19 green recovery in urban areas, in an inclusive and gender-sensitive manner.

To this end, the project seeks to demonstrate a nature-based solution and multifunctional green infrastructure to foster social cohesion, improve urban climate resilience, and provide vocational training for refugees and host community. This will be done by establishing a community urban garden at Queen Rania Al Abdullah Park in the Al Qwiesmeh District of Amman, Jordan.

This video will help in promoting the project’s activities and its objectives. Additionally, the video would share some of the vocational training participants’ stories and how the training would impact their lives. Sharing these stories will raise help in raising awareness on the importance of community urban gardening and composting.
