The Online Vlunteer will support the OHCHR Regional Office for Southern Africa in fulfilling its annual workplan and strategic plan with a focus on strengthening its organisational effectiveness with respect to communications and advocacy. The Online Volunteer for video editing, animation and graphic design support will play a key role in creating impactful visual assets that amplify the work undertaken by the office. Working closely with the Public Information Officer (PIO), the volunteer will help ensure cohesive and effective messaging across platforms. This assignment also offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in internal and external communications within a UN agency and enhance communication collaboration skills across ROSA pillars. Reporting to the PIO, the selected candidate will design assets for social media, websites and publication design and layout for ROSA projects.

OHCHR ROSA is looking for one (1) Online Volunteer who under the guidance of the Public Information Officer and in close collaboration with pillar leads to produce design and layout for all visual communication assets including but not limited to reports, social media messaging, brochure and newsletter, explainers, factsheets covering the achievements of ROSA and amplifying results. In particular, the Online Volunteer is asked to: - Create draft design based on requirements and discuss with focal point/ communications team; - Develop the design according to agreed requirements; and - Assist to develop social media messaging in collaboration with PIO and other OHCHR staff members.

The design/layout should follow OHCHR design style guide which will be shared with the Online Volunteers in advance. The Online Volunteer/s may have the opportunity to build connections with the Communications teams at OHCHR and learn about the ways in which graphic design can increase the visibility of successful interventions.

Candidates should have professional experience in graphic design with previous experience in designing document layouts, and must have in-depth knowledge of graphic design applications, as well as good verbal and written communication skills. Experience in video editing and motion graphics animation would be considered an asset. A degree in graphic design or related field is considered an asset with at least two years of relevant professional experience in multi-media and communication. A strong background in media and communications tools with an emphasis on communication campaigns is an advantage.

TOOLS & LICENSES • Access to tools like Canva, Adobe Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), and other multimedia creation tools will not be provided. Applicants must have their own access to the necessary tools to produce the required output for this role.
