Overview

Perform vehicle maintenance and repairs for UN-owned fleet in Brindisi.

You have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (Certificato di Qualifica Professionale) is required.
  • Valid driving license type B is required.
  • Valid driving license type C is desirable.
  • At least three (03) years of professional/technical experience in maintaining and repairing various types of motor vehicles and related equipment is required.
  • Experience in the application of the guidelines and procedures relative to the safe operation of workshop equipment such as vehicle lifts, engine hoists and various other electrical, pneumatics and hydraulic equipment is required.
  • Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies services and Training to all Secretariat Entities, Peacekeeping and Special Political Missions, Agencies, Funds and Programmes of the UN system worldwide. This position is located in the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy within the 3R Program - Central Maintenance and Repair Unit (CMRU) of the Supply Chain Service. The vehicle technician will work under the supervision of the Chief of the Central Maintenance and Repair Unit (CMRU). The individual contractors will be performing the following duties: • Carry out pre-delivery inspections, routine maintenance and repairs of various vehicles and equipment models and types per manufacturers' specifications and standards. • Assist in identifying, diagnosing and rectifying various mechanical and electrical faults on UN-owned vehicles and equipment. • Carry out minor/major refurbishment tasks on vehicles and equipment under UN Reserve. Ensures that all relevant safety procedures are followed when repairing and fitting replacement components and parts. • Conduct periodic vehicle and equipment testing and inspections on UN-owned assets assigned to various inventories/units. • Pound out or patch dents in the sheet metal and other minor body damage and remove rust from metal, grease, and dirt from the work surface. • Replace damaged body parts, including bumpers, fenders, hoods, trim, and other components not part of the engine and welds replacement parts into place. • Mask and protects parts not to be painted or coated; fills cavities and dents with putty to attain a smooth surface; mixes paint according to specification; selects and mixes coating liquid to produce the desired colour. • Paint the surface using a sprayer or brush as appropriate; heat and spray wax onto products after they are tested. • Produce reports to document all servicing and repairs. • Assist with the identification of required parts. • Perform any other related tasks as required.

Qualifications/special skills

• High School diploma or equivalent (Certificato di Qualifica Professionale) is required. • Valid driving license type B is required. • Valid driving license type C is desirable. • A technical or vocational certificate in mechanics or other related fields is desirable. At least three (03) years of professional/technical experience in maintaining and repairing various types of motor vehicles and related equipment is required. Experience in the application of the guidelines and procedures relative to the safe operation of workshop equipment such as vehicle lifts, engine hoists and various other electrical, pneumatics and hydraulic equipment is required

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required.
