Org. Setting and Reporting This position is located in the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) duty station Bentiu. The vehicle technician will report to the Motor Transport Officer (MTO).

Responsibilities Under the direction of the Motor Transport Officer (MTO) in Bentiu, the Vehicle Technician will be responsible for carrying out scheduled and unscheduled services and repairs on standard civilian pattern vehicles (SCPV) in accordance with vehicle manufacture standards and ensures that all relevant safety procedures have been followed when repairing and fitting replacement spare parts. To this end the incumbent shall perform the following duties:

•Services and repairs vehicles in accordance with vehicle manufacturer’ standards and schedules; •Ensures that all relevant safety procedures are followed when repairing and fitting replacement parts; •Conducts vehicle inspections on UN-owned vehicles assigned to various units; •Produces reports to document all servicing and repairs; •Operates recovery truck and recover breakdown vehicles. Also operate Material handling equipment such as Forklifts; •Checking and testing wiring and parts of older vehicles with portable instruments; Using diagnostic tools for analyzing and corrections; •Assist in identifying, diagnosing and rectifying various faults; •Assist in identification of the required parts, using EPC’s; •Diagnosing and repairing electric and electronic components in vehicles including battery, ignition system, electronic fuel injection, anti-lock braking, airbag SRS fixtures and general wiring, alarms and immobilizers tracking devices, power windows, mirrors and power seats; heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; •Service, reset and maintains the electronic vehicle monitoring system, EVMS Carlog; •Performs any other tasks as required.

Education High school diploma or vocational qualification in motor vehicle mechanical training. Certificate showing technical competency at the journeyman level as a vehicle technician is a requirement. Valid national driving license is a must.

Work Experience At least four (4) years of relevant apprenticeship/work experience. Must possess sound knowledge of motor vehicle steering geometry and the functioning principles of braking system. Must be familiar with the guidelines and procedures relative to the safe operation of workshop equipment such as vehicles lifts, engine hoist and various other electrical, pneumatics and hydraulic equipment. Working in other international Organisations is an advantage.

Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations secretariat. For this post fluency in oral and written English is required and knowledge of national languages spoken in South Sudan is an added advantage.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
