BACKGROUND & PURPOSE

The Research, Assessment and Monitoring Unit (RAM) within WFP is mandated with the generation of evidence to provide policy advice and technical guidance on the effective implementation of food security programmes. Through its expertise in the areas of food security and vulnerability analysis and mapping (VAM) as well as project monitoring and evaluation, the RAM unit is responsible for mainstreaming evidence based decision-making process into WFP’s operations. Food security analysis is a core area of the WFP work and forms the basis for the design of all its operations. Prior to any intervention, WFP undertakes an analysis of the food security situation in the area. WFP provides geospatial and economic analysis, food security monitoring and assessments, post shock assessments and thematic analysis. The RAM team in WFP Tajikistan is responsible to do food security and other assessments under the activities of the Country Strategic Plan 2023-2026. A key assessment that the RAM team undertakes is the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification of Tajikistan.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

Under the overall supervision of the RAM Officer-Head of Unit and the close mentoring and guidance of the VAM Officer, the candidate will perform the following duties:

• Support in planning of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification exercise – eg: help to develop questionnaire tools, support documentation and relevant administrative actions, coordinate with field offices (in Bokhtar, Khujand, Garm and Khorog) etc. • Assist with doing unofficial translations of documents, letters etc. (English-Tajik-Russian). • Support the activities of the GIS team – eg: support to update programme related maps, data cleaning, preparing spreadsheets for data visualisation etc.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate programme from a recognized university, have completed at least two years of the programme and attended classes in the past 12 months; OR
  • Recently graduated from an undergraduate/graduate programme (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university; OR
  • Currently enrolled in a graduate programme (e.g. Master's degree) at a recognized university and have attended classes in the past 12 months;

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Understanding of how to analyze, interpret and visualize data using SPSS, Tableau, PowerBI, ArcGIS or similar tools.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Analytical, problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and multitask as needed.
  • Fully committed and motivated to achieve the aims of the UN World Food Programme.
  • Experience on data analysis, visualizing and reporting using SPSS, Tableau, PowerBI or similar tools as well as creating / updating maps using ArcGIS or similar tools would be an advantage.

Languages:

  • Required fluency (level C) in oral and written English;
  • Required fluency (level C) in oral and written Tajik or Russian; fluency in both is an advantage;

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

- Interns will receive a monthly stipend as a contribution towards basic subsidence costs the amount of which varies from duty station to another; - WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs; - Depending on the duty station of assignment, WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country; - WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognised institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
