Overview

Develop and maintain frontend websites with attractive graphic design

You have:

  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science/information systems, or related area is required.
  • Certification in web design/development is desirable.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a multi-developer environment with extensive knowledge of web design (HTML, CSS, and any JavaScript dialect/frameworks) is required.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools is desirable.
  • Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows, site maps, and rapid prototyping is desirable.
  • Understanding of user experience, user interface principles, and conceptual designs is desirable.
  • Experience with responsive design and designing multilingual websites is desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with cross browser web design skills is desirable.
  • Experience with mobile and related devices designs is desirable.
  • Solid experience in content management systems such as Drupal and version control such as GIT is desirable.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Result of Service

The UX/UI Expert is expected to develop and maintain frontend websites, as well as design collaterals, creating looks, layouts, and features in attractive professional graphic design. To do that, the contractor will follow UN established standards for web development, IT technologies, programming languages, and tools, also preparing, maintaining, and referencing project-base agreed technical, user, and functional specifications and documentations.

Duties and Responsibilities

Background: Under the overall guidance of the Chief, ICTS, and direct supervision by the team lead of the Data Science and Computational Economics Unit, the IC will - create the look, layout, and features of a website in attractive professional graphic design in an intuitive, user-friendly style and design collaterals; - develop frontend for websites using UN established standards for web design, technologies and tools; - interpret user requirements and translate these into systems specifications; - analyze and advise on innovative web-based solutions; - prepare technical and user documentation for deployed websites and products, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations; - Maintain functional specifications for websites, programs and procedures developed and/or modified; - provide support for deployed websites including version management, data recovery and deployment; - support digitization, visualization and development of infographics for various products; - trains staff on completed products; - Assists in the maintenance and enhancement of existing user systems, the development of new software applications, and data visualization and data analytics initiatives; - Any other related tasks as needed per UN ICT or ESCWA’s strategy. Duties and Responsibilities: - Completed project plan upon inception of projects - Initial design and mock-up for assigned projects - Technical documentation and user manual for assigned projects - Progress reports with time sheets indicating the fulfilment/progress of requested tasks/activities - Final Source code/Design/Images/Animations and all assets related to the website and web applications being developed

Qualifications/special skills

A Bachelor’s degree in computer science/information systems, or related area is required. Certification in web design/development is desirable. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 3 years of experience working in a multi-developer environment with extensive knowledge of web design (HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and any JavaScript dialect/frameworks is required. The following experience and knowledge are desirable: 1 - Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite tools 2- Solid experience in creating wireframes, storyboards, user flows, process flows site maps, and rapid prototyping 3- Understanding of the concepts of user experience, user interface principles, and conceptual designs 4- Experience with responsive design and in designing multilingual websites 5- Extensive knowledge and experience with cross browser web design skills 6- Experience with mobile and related devices designs 7- Solid experience in content management systems such as Drupal and version control such as GIT

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
