Overview

Design and develop user-friendly web interfaces and graphics.

You have:

  • 3 years of relevant experience in UX/UI design and web development.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks.
  • Ability to create user-friendly and appealing visual designs.
  • Experience in technical and user documentation preparation.
  • Understanding of data visualization principles and tools.

Contract

This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

The UX/UI Designer will develop and maintain frontend websites, as well as design collaterals, creating looks, layouts, and features in attractive professional graphic design. To do that, the contractor will follow UN established standards for web development, IT technologies, programming languages, and tools, also preparing, maintaining, and referencing project-base agreed technical, user, and functional specifications and documentations.

Under the supervision of the Data Scientist, the User Experience/User Interface Designer is responsible to perform the following functions:

  1. Create the look, layout, and features of a website in attractive professional graphic design in an intuitive, user-friendly style and design collaterals;
  2. Develop frontend for websites using UN established standards for web design, technologies and tools;
  3. Interpret user requirements and translate these into systems specifications;
  4. Analyze and advise on innovative web-based solutions;
  5. Prepare technical and user documentation for deployed websites and products, as well as training materials and conducts technical presentations;
  6. Maintain functional specifications for websites, programs and procedures developed and/or modified;
  7. Provide support for deployed websites including version management, data recovery and deployment;
  8. Support digitization, visualization and development of infographics for various products.
  9. Trains staff on completed products;
  10. Assists in the maintenance and enhancement of existing user systems, the development of new software applications, and data visualization and data analytics initiatives;
  11. Any other related tasks as needed per UN ICT or ESCWA’s strategy.

a multi-developer environment with extensive knowledge of web design (HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and any JavaScript dialect/frameworks is required.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in ESCWA. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

Conditions of Service for national UN Volunteers:

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment. The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable). Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) will be provided monthly.
