Overview

Update and validate a study on Women’s Access to Finance in Arab States.

You have:

  • Master’s degree in gender studies, economics, finance, public policy or other related fields
  • At least 7 years’ experience in gender equality and empowerment of women with proven experience in the area of inclusive economies or experience in financial inclusion and economics with a strong focus on gender
  • Relevant experience in the Arab region
  • Proven significant and relevant experience in research and policy work
  • Proven experience in conducting similar assignments for international development organizations

The objective of this assignment is to update a draft study on: Women’s Access to Finance in Arab States Region: Obstacles and Good Practices which highlights challenges, and identifies good practices across government, central banks, commercial banks and alternative financing mechanisms in the region. This will include updating the study with the latest available secondary research, undertaking additional primary research based on key informant interviews, and validating/updating the recommendations. Based on the latest updates to the study, the consultant should also produce a five-page policy brief summarizing the key findings and recommendations. The assignment contributes to UNDP regional office focus area of gender inclusive economies, specifically financing solutions for women. Understanding UNDP's strategy on gender equality and our work on financing for gender equality would be helpful

The Online Volunteers will work under the overall guidance RBAS Gender Team leader Under their direct guidance, the Online Volunteer will carry out the specific tasks: • Review the existing study draft report and conduct a desk review of available literature. • Prepare a proposal for the methodology to update and validate the findings. The methodology should include the following: o The data collection and analysis methods, o Highlight the sections that would be updated, o Propose a sample of countries that would be included in the report based on an initial mapping of good practices as indicated above o Include the bibliography of references The methodology must include secondary and primary research methods. The sample of countries must cover at least the countries included in the existing draft study. • Prepare an updated draft report • Share and discuss the findings of the report with the UNDP gender and Inclusive growth teams to share findings and receive feedback. • Submit a final report addressing the feedback and comments of the various teams.

Academic Qualifications: • Master’s degree in gender studies, economics, finance, public policy or other related fields; Years of experience: • At least 7 years’ experience in gender equality and empowerment of women with proven experience in the area of inclusive economies or experience in financial inclusion and economics with a strong focus on gender. • Relevant experience in the Arab region • Proven significant and relevant experience in research and policy work • Proven experience in conducting similar assignments for international development organizations.
