This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 25 years old. Nationals of the country of assignment are not eligible, except the assignments in Headquarters duty stations.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the DPPA-DPO Regional Partnerships Officer, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Support the DPPA-DPO’s conflict prevention and peacebuilding initiatives in Southeast Asia, including by helping organize workshops, manage projects, and backstop missions in the region.
  • Monitor and analyze political developments in Southeast Asia and identify regional trends.
  • Compile newsletters and draft reports, pieces of correspondence, and various background documents for senior officials.
  • Network and build relationships with local and regional actors, both government and civil society.
  • Support efforts to strengthen the UN’s partnership with ASEAN in the political and security pillar, including by preparing meetings; organizing workshops; and establishing effective partnerships with UN and non-UN actors.
  • Participate in seminars, workshops, etc. to inform DPPA-DPO’s efforts in the region.
  • Initiate and / or participate in local volunteer groups working on peace initiatives and promote their experiences to the World Volunteer Web site;
  • Work with the regional office of UN Volunteers to better integrate UNV’s work and initiatives into DPPA-DPO’s conflict prevention and peacebuilding work.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field is required.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

2 years of relevant experience in the areas of political science, international relations, conflict resolution, or peacebuilding.

Experience drafting reports or analytical pieces is required.

Experience in peace and security issues related to Southeast Asia is desirable.

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Political affairs and political reporting, Crisis and conflict prevention, mitigation, resolution and reconciliation
