Contract
This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.
Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of task
Under the direct supervision of the UNITAMS Public Information Officer, the UNV Public Information Officer will be mainly responsible for coordinating and managing the development, production and dissemination of communications outputs/services, with minimal supervision. Specific duties include:
- Responsible for managing the Mission’s English and Arabic versions of the website daily, updating content and uploading information;
- Update the Mission’s internal Point intranet as needed;
- Maintain social media platforms, posting stories, photos, and articles in English and Arabic;
- Monitor statistics, generate reports on website and social media performance;
- Engage with followers on social media platforms as per UN rules and regulations;
- Assist in the development of content for the website and Intranet using interfaces, templates and other standard graphic and web design software;
- Design dynamic and engaging visuals for social media platforms, publications, events material and signage, infographics, data visualizations, icons, newsletters, brochures and flyers;
- Perform any other related duties as may be required.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level:
Bachelor degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
University degree or diploma in international relations, journalism, mass communication or in a particular communications medium or product, e.g. computer graphic design, website design or other relevant field;
Required experience:
60 Months
Experience remark:
At least five years of relevant experience, preferably with the United Nations, including several years of specialized experience in a public communications environment (particularly journalism);
Language skills:
- Arabic(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
- English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise:
Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Public information and reporting, Arts, music, photography and film
Area of expertise details:
- Demonstrated ability to use Drupal content management system, as well as Microsoft Office suites (Word, Powerpoint and Excel); proficiency in desktop publishing and, particularly, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, are desirable;
- Demonstrated ability to maintain websites and social media platforms,
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic;
- Ability to work effectively in a team of international and national personnel;
- Have affinity with or interest in humanitarian relief, post-conflict situations, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System;
