This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the UNODC National Programme Officer (Human Trafficking & Migrant Smuggling), the National Youth UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

1. Provide implementation support to the project: • Assist National Programme Officer (Human Trafficking & Migrant Smuggling) and the team in effective liaison and communications, inter alia ensuring flow of information to internal and external stakeholders through coordination, preparation and circulation of regular updates, newsletters, reports, web-stories and other written outputs to ensure visibility of the Programme, in line with any donor visibility requirements; • Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, briefing notes, speeches, position papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc., relating to maritime crime issues, in collaboration with the substantive team; • Support the conduct of research and collation of information on trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants • Contribute with substantive support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in eval-uations or research activities and studies. • Provide logistical, administrative and substantive support to the National Programme Officer (Human Trafficking & Migrant Smuggling) and the team with regard to consul-tative and other meetings, workshops, conferences, training sessions, missions etc., including preparing background documents and presentations, drafting meeting minutes, etc.; • Provide coordination support in securing nominations for UNODC events, communi-cating with nominated participants, following up on any queries, organizing and coor-dinating filing and maintaining of mailing lists; • Translate daily correspondence and project-related documents, reports and other writ-ten outputs, if requested by the team members; and assist with the interpretation during UNODC events, as required; • Assist National Programme Officer (Human Trafficking & Migrant Smuggling) with ad-ministrative processes related to the procurement of equipment and services and re-cruitment of experts, including support to preparation of terms of reference, contracts for consultants, and monitoring and follow-up on related payment requests, in line with UN financial rules and regulations; • Perform any other duties as required/assigned.

Educational additional comments

Bachelor’s degree in law, criminology, or political or social science is required.

Experience remark

Minimum 1 year of work experience in the field of law, international law, or criminal justice is required; • Experience in the conduct of research on human trafficking and the smuggling of mi-grants and related national and international legislation is desirable; • Experience in liaison with government counterparts is desirable; • Experience in communication activities is desirable; • Experience in the management and implementation of project activities is desirable; • Experience in organizing national, regional and international events is desirable; • Experience in volunteerism is desirable.

Language skills

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Bengali(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise details

• Experience in legal research and legal review; • Experience working and liaising with government counterparts; • Experience in the area of trafficking in persons and the smuggling of migrants. • Familiarity with UN mandates, rules and regulations; • Ability to create, edit and present information in clear and presentable formats; • Ability to manage data, documents, correspondence and reports information and workflow; • Good IT skills.
