This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Sector/Sub-Sector Coordinator or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Knowledge Management Officer will:

  • Identify and document lessons learned, best practices and innovations (‘knowledge’) from across the sector response to the Rohingya crisis using written documentation, as well as photo and video as appropriate.
  • Organize forums and platforms for sector partners to share knowledge amongst themselves, as well as with other sectors bilaterally or multilaterally.
  • Identify and develop mechanisms to share knowledge generated from the Rohingya crisis across UNICEF at the country, regional and global levels.
  • Connect with the global cluster to identify opportunities to disseminate knowledge generated from the Rohingya crisis to other humanitarian contexts, and to bring knowledge generated from other emergencies to the Rohingya crisis.
  • Develop new and innovative ways to share knowledge and information amongst sector partners.
  • Ensure knowledge and information generated by the sector are stored in a safe and effective, and, where required confidential, manner.
  • In coordination with the information management officer, support the collection, validation, analysis and dissemination of data from sector partners.
  • Develop situation reports and other information and knowledge products to support the work of the sector.
  • In coordination with the information management officer, support for data visualization including products to support advocacy, resource mobilization efforts, referral pathways, IEC material, etc.
  • Prepare and maintain catalogues of IM and data products for the humanitarian response.
  • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Educational additional comments

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, e.g. social sciences, development, water and sanitation engineering, nutrition, education or social work;

Experience remark

  • At least 2 years of professional work experience at the national and/or international level; humanitarian experience is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization;
  • Experience in knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation is essential.
  • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development;
  • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Sound security awareness;
  • Have affinity with or interest in children’s rights, volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
