This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the supervision of the Communication Specialist, the National UN Volunteer will undertake the following functions:

  • Assist in the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of an advocacy and communication strategy to promote respect for children’s and women’s rights, and support UNICEF's mission in Djibouti
  • Assist in moderating social media platforms, engage with UNICEF's social media audience, and respond to online queries
  • Conduct social media analysis for UNICEF Djibouti platforms, measure audience engagement and contribute to building UNICEF’s social media fan base through assessment of key audiences, content planning, content management, search engine optimization, analytics and assessment of effectiveness of platforms and content
  • Assist in editing/re-writing human interest stories and blogs contributed by non-communication staff
  • Help raise awareness about challenges facing the Health, Nutrition, Education and Child protection sectors in Djibouti and come up with innovative communication approaches.
  • Assist in producing graphic design content for social media, such as fact graphs, info graphs, and other documents that require simple design such as brochures
  • Assist Communication Section team members in events, launches, campaigns, and other key communication activities.

Educational additional comments

Bachelor degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences, or related field.

Experience remark

  • 2 years of professional experience relevant to communication, print and broadcast media or interactive digital media, at either the national or international level.
  • Communication, experience with development and implementation of communication strategies;
  • Proficiency in using computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, email/internet, other IT applications;
  • Skills and technical competence in producing for various media formats: print, web, social media)

Language skills

  • French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge
