This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

To achieve concrete results for children, UNICEF Brazil has a powerful Country Programme, including strong communication, advocacy and engagement strategies.

UNICEF Communication Team works to raise awareness about children’s rights and engage the society to take action for children. It includes developing and implementing public advocacy, media relations and content production strategies to put a spotlight on UNICEF work, influence the audience and achieve solid results for children.

To respond to the increasing communication demands, it is necessary to implement a number of communication actions seeking to position the organization, engage key media groups and highlight UNICEF results for Children, based on UNICEF´s Strategic Framework and linked to the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Under the direct supervision of the Communication Officer, the UN Volunteer will provide support to the Communication Team in designing, planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating communication plans for Programmatic and Advocacy priorities. In close collaboration with Communication and Programme teams, the UNV will support media visibility and production of communication materials (such as human-interest stories and articles) related to each programme.

Key End-Results 1. Content production: 1.1. Coordinate and execute the production of communication products and materials (including human-interest stories, social media posts, releases and articles), guaranteeing that everything is timely executed, ensuring the quality of each content. Work in close collaborating with Communication and Programme Teams. 2. Media relations: 2.1. Implement media engagement strategies to highlight UNICEF work and key priorities – including: drafting of press releases and coordination of media contacts with the support of UNICEF external media agency.
3. Media Monitoring: • Produce daily a media newsletter, informing UNICEF staff about the main reports and articles about UNICEF at national and local key media houses. • Produce a monthly media monitoring report that strategically analyses UNICEF’s presence in the media and topics of interesting of the advocacy and fundraising goals. • Monitor and evaluate the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy and communication materials to target audiences, and participate in the evaluation of their impact. Monitor and evaluate the use and effectiveness of media materials. Maintain a library of coverage (clippings, coverage etc.)

Brasilia is a family duty station and classified A (hardship). The living conditions in Brasilia are good as well as the access to health services. The accommodation facilities are in general good, and the choice is wide. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and other living essentials .National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. Brazil is security level 3 (moderate). United Nations Department of Safety and Security UNDSS Brazil advises to exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high levels of serious and violent crime, particularly in major cities. Violent crime as muggings, armed robbery, kidnappings, and sexual assault, is very high. Avoid shanty towns (favelas) in the big cities and if you are attacked or robbed, do not resist. Demonstrations can occur at any time and may turn violent with little or no warning. All United Nations personnel must scrupulously comply with UNDSS procedures and recommendations during their assignment in Brazil. For missions in rural areas or indigenous reservations, special procedures may apply; UN personnel should consult with the local DSS office in advance.
