UNICEF’s regional office for East Asia and the Pacific (EAPRO) provides effective support to country offices and conducts strategic engagement with partners to win support for the cause of children in East Asia and the Pacific. Among other things, this includes providing technical assistance, capacity building and coordination to strengthen digital advocacy in the region. UNICEF EAPRO has achieved significant growth in reach and engagement across our digital channels in recent years. To facilitate meaningful engagement with our younger audiences, EAPRO is looking to create a steady stream of targeted youth content for our channels. The UNV will be responsible for leading on youth content development together with the regional YPAT (Young People’s Action Team) as well as the Gender and ADAP (adolescent development) program section. The UNV should be social media savvy with a deep knowledge of digital trends and the ability to recommend and implement impactful measures to improve engagement.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Regional Communication Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), and under the overall guidance of the Regional Chief of Advocacy & Communication, the UNV Youth Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Content production: ● Develop a regional approach for youth content on UNICEF EAPRO’s official channels, based on best practices, digital youth trends as well as audience insights and analytics ● Research and pitch new approaches and angles for UNICEF EAPRO’s existing channels, as well as for new platforms relevant to youth (such as TikTok) ● Conceptualize and create engaging content targeted at young people (particularly adolescent girls), for social media and website ● Coordinate directly with youth content creators to ensure a steady stream of content for UNICEF EAPRO’s official channels. Collaborate with the UNICEF EAPRO’s Gender / ADAP and other potentially relevant sections to create content
● Run capacity building sessions with youth on creating content for UNICEF on regional advocacy priorities ● Oversight and quality control of youth-created content ● Keep up to date with developments (trending topics, new features, etc.) on all major social media channels and make recommendations for UNICEF EAPRO’s content. Keep an eye out on organizations and brands with successful youth engagement strategies ● Contribute to ideation for key moments and campaigns across all social media platforms based on the annual plans of program sections ● Assist the communication section with additional tasks as required

Results and expected outputs: ● As an active UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office’s (EAPRO) team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office’s (EAPRO) and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including o Create and manage a flow of compelling and engaging content for UNICEF EAPRO’s digital channels, targeted at young people (particularly adolescent girls) o In coordination with the Gender-Adolescent Section, liaise with interested YPAT members and set up processes to co-create high-quality engaging content on a regular basis o Prepare and conduct digital and communications-related capacity-building sessions with interested YPAT members to facilitate the creation of engaging content o Help develop new content creation capabilities within UNICEF EAPRO – e.g., reels, ultra-short form / TikTok style videos o In collaboration with interested YPAT members, present regular recommendations to increase engagement of UNICEF EAPRO’s target audiences on digital channels, particularly young people o Support the attainment of the aims of the Regional Digital Strategy o Expand reach and engagement across all digital platforms ● Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment ● A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

Multimedia, communication, journalism, creative writing, marketing, political science, social science or a similar discipline. ● Ability to write clearly, succinctly and for varying audiences. ● Demonstrated experience managing or moderating social media channels or online communities. ● Excellent oral and written English language skills. ● At least six months professional experience in the area of digital and social media communications. ● Demonstrated knowledge of social media trends and shifts in the social media landscape ● Creative, enthusiastic, solutions-oriented ● Ability to respond to short deadlines and demonstrate a quick turn-around and execution of creative work. ● Previous experience with humanitarian or non-profit organizations is an asset ● Ability to work with tight deadlines ● Experience with graphic, photo and video design/editing is desirable

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.
