This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Candidate age: between 18 and 29 throughout the entire duration of their assignment. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Specialist – EVAW, UN Women Bangladesh, in close consultation with the Communication Analyst and EVAW Programme team, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Coordination and implementation of the Gender Based Violence Communication Strategy
  • Coordination, design and implementation of the shadow pandemic campaign
  • Provide project support and partner coordination to the EVAW team for communication interventions
  • Support in coordinate events and international campaigns through organization of media and events.
  • Provide administrative support to the programme team in the organization of events.
  • Monitor, analyze and develop situation reports on gender-based violence and other thematic areas
  • Support the development of information management, communication and advocacy materials on gender and violence in development in Bangladesh
  • Write stories, briefing notes, concept notes, talking points and content for the online media, in English and Bangla
  • Assist in managing UN Women Bangladesh EVAW website, and social media channel, ensuring the content of the website and social media channel are updated;
  • Keep track of EVAW programme communication and beneficiaries reach through social media platforms, aiming for increased user interaction.
  • Develop communication materials including infographics, human interest stories, case studies and report writing for the national and international media and on-line media
  • Support in drafting end editing briefs, letters, reports and briefing papers, and knowledge products.
  • Produce materials that can be used in social media format including graphic designs.
  • Support in updating database and documentation of the GBV related Material.
  • Create and organize hard and electronic files for easy access and retrieval.

  • Provide other ad hoc support to UN Women Bangladesh Country Office, and EVAW team as and when required.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Gender Studies, English Literature, Social Sciences, Mass Communications and Journalism or another relevant field.

Required experience:

6 Months

Experience remark:

  • 0 - 2 years of relevant experiences in development sectors (preferably in Ending Violence Against Women).
  • Experience in communications; including organization of online and off line events; drafting of knowledge products and communication materials;
  • Experience in designing and coordinating campaigns related to GBV;
  • Knowledge of gender concepts and GBV;
  • Experience in working for UN Women, and/or other UN Agencies is desirable;
  • Experience in research, supporting project development;
  • Excellent command of English (oral and written), other UN languages is an asset;

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Bengali(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Knowledge management, archiving and documentation, Web and graphic design, Other communications related experience

Area of expertise details:

  • Organized online and offline communication and learning events, drafting of knowledge and IEC materials
  • Designed and coordinated BCC campaign related to GBV
  • Accomplished writing skills (English) with experience in writing professional scripts and speeches, stories, press release, feature articles and content for the on-line and print media
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills including graphics design skills
  • Experience in working with UN Women, and / or other UN Agencies
  • Proficient in computer applications (MS Word, MS PowerPoint and Acrobat/photoshop, photography)
