This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.

The UNV Field Unit (FU) Brazil is looking to recruit a national UN Youth Volunteer to support the UNV Field Unit throughout the volunteer management cycle to ensure effective identification, selection, deployment, on-boarding, learning, contract management and reporting of UN Volunteers in Brazil. They will also support outreach and communication.

Under the direct supervision of UNV Country Coordinator, the National UN Youth Volunteer will support the UNV Field Unit throughout the volunteer management cycle to ensure effective identification, selection, deployment, on-boarding, learning, contract management and reporting of UN Volunteers in Brazil. They will also support outreach and communication. The main tasks include:

Volunteer recruitment and management • Support organizing UN Volunteer deployment and management: • Support translation of documents, such as DOA, as required • Support implementing context appropriate outreach, advertisement of opportunities and selection process; • Support candidate profiles’ creation in UVP, as required • Support candidate applications in UVP or outside the system; • Support host entities assessing candidates: assist in preparation of desk review, scheduling written test and interview, support creation of database of selected candidates, etc.); • Support selected candidates and UN Volunteers to fill and upload required documents in UVP; (education credentials, identity information, beneficiary form, banking information etc.) • Assist in planning and preparation of the on-boarding and learning of UN Volunteers; • Maintain Volunteer files, including leave related information; • Support follow-up on UN Volunteer reporting in relevant UNV systems. • Contribute to keep track of contract expirations and assist in following-up on requests of contract extensions. • Support organization of UN Volunteer meetings and activities, induction of supervisors, etc. • Related tasks, whenever requested

Talent outreach • Upon request of Country Coordinator, and in coordination with Talent Acquisition Team, support the promotion and launch of targeted calls for applications, including advertisement in specialized networks, local websites, newspapers and other social media platforms, as applicable; • Upon request of Country Coordinator, and in coordination with The Regional Office and the Talent Acquisition Team, support development of specialized/ tailored talent pools. • Support planning and implementing outreach activities.

Information, Communication and knowledge management • Keep abreast of best practices in institutional Volunteer solutions and Volunteer management. • In close collaboration with the Regional Office and Communications Section at UNV HQ, assist in capturing lessons learnt and Volunteer stories to be shared with UNV and host entity. • Support preparation of specific promotional information on the mandate and work of UNV in the country, in close coordination with the Regional Office and the Communications Section at UNV HQ. • Contribute to building and maintaining UNV social media through content planning and content management, • Assist in producing graphic design content for social media, such as fact graphs, info graphs, and other documents that require simple design.

Daily management of the UNV Field Unit • Support implementation of UNV annual work plan in the country. • Support planning and coordinating activities and events, in collaboration with other agencies, for annual, national and international celebrations recognized by the United Nations, including International Volunteer Day (IVD); • Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

volunteer management, programme management or human resource management (including internship). Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded; Experience with following established administrative processes. Experience in communication / social media will be an asset

Skills and technical competencies • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Translation skills are an asset; • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills; • Overall computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Excel and use of social media. Use of publishing and design software packages would be an advantage. • Knowledge of photo editing software and keen eye for photography would be an advantage. Ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners; • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team; • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences; • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, Self-motivated, ability to work with tight deadlines; • Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System. • Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others • University studies (completed or ongoing) in an area relevant to community or social development, project management or human resource management would be an asset.

The assignment will be in Brasilia, the nation's capital. Brasilia is a family duty station, Hardship A. Security level in Brazil is moderate (3).

The living conditions in Brasilia are good as well as the access to health services. The accommodation facilities are in general good and the choice is wide. As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and other living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan.

UNDSS Brazil advises to exercise a high degree of caution in Brazil due to high levels of serious and violent crime, particularly in major cities. Violent crime as muggings, armed robbery, kidnappings and sexual assault, is very high. Avoid shanty towns (favelas) in the big cities and if you are attacked or robbed, do not resist. Demonstrations can occur at any time and may turn violent with little or no warning. All United Nations personnel must scrupulously comply with UNDSS procedures and recommendations during their assignment in Brazil. For missions in rural areas or indigenous reservations, special procedures may apply; UN personnel must consult with the local DSS office in advance.
