The Global Polio Eradication Initiative, mandated by theWorld Health Assembly to stop transmission of wild poliovirus, has reduced global incidence of polio by 99.9%. It is a partnership spearheaded by WHO,Rotary International, US CDC, UNICEF and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, andsupported by BMGF. The programme supports Member States in carrying out surveillance and immunization campaigns and strengthening routine immunization,in order to stop polio transmission. Set up in 2022, GPEI's Executive Management Unit (EMU) was established to streamline GPEI's operations and day to day coordination. The EMU is tasked with 1)coordinating and supporting the work of the Global Program Support (GPS) and Regional Operations (RO) groups; 2) leading the implementation and coordination of cross cutting issues across GPEI (i.e. integration, gender); 3) ensuring performance and risk management processes are managed consistently across the GPEI partnership; and 4) coordinating the operations of the GPEI's Strategy Committee (SC).
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the EMU to ensure it is meeting its objectives.
- Lead the development of the EMU workplan and oversee its implementation.
- Oversee the overall work of the EMU team members, to ensure they are able to deliver on their responsibilities.
- Ensure there is a strong link between SC and GPS/RO groups to ensure consistent communication and ensuring involvement or decision-making at the proper time.
- Lead efforts to support group chairs to exercise their authority, facilitating the resolution of strategic and operational misalignments across groups.
- Ensure timely and effective completion of projects and initiatives requested by the SC, such as priority cross-cutting efforts (i.e. Integration, gender).
- Ensure all decisions and documentation coming to the SC are fit for purpose, and the correct consultations and analyses have been completed to enable the SC to provide guidance.
- Participate with the SC in its regular calls as well as in strategic planning, policy development, and decision-making.
- Oversee effective tracking and reporting of GPEI activities against organizational plans, priorities, and key metrics (e.g. Key Performance Indicators), escalating issues as appropriate.
- Ensure timely progress reporting for donors and partners.
- Represents the SC, at its request, in interactions within and outside the partnership.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: An advanced university degree in public health, the management or other degree related to the functions of the position. Desirable: Project management certification.
Experience
Essential: A minimum of 10 years of professional experience with increasing levels of seniority in coordination and/or management of over-arching programmatic activities, ideally with or in an International Organization. Experience in the area of health/technical policies and strategies in a multi-stakeholder partnership environment. Demonstrated experience managing human and financial resources. Demonstrated experience at the international level. Desirable: First-hand working experience at regional and/or country level.Experience working in immunization, polio or emergencies.Familiar with GPEI structure.

REMUNERATION
WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 90,664 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 6256 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
