The Public Partnerships Division is responsible for developing and strengthening public partnerships to support UNICEF’s work to protect the rights of every child.

The partnerships with Washington DC-based International Financial Institutions (IFIs) are among UNICEF’s most important and multi-faceted external partnerships.

How can you make a difference? The Public Partnerships intern will work closely with the Public Partnerships staff based in Washington DC, supporting UNICEF in managing partnerships and resource mobilization with the IFIs, including the World Bank Group, the International Finance Corporation, the International Monetary Fund, the InterAmerican Development Bank and other development finance institutions and regional development banks.

  • Learn to assist the Public Partnerships Division in maximizing partnerships with the Washington, DC-based International Financial Institutions, with a focus on response and recovery from COVID-19 in the poorest countries.
  • Learn to assist in the preparation of briefing notes, reports, and other documentation required by UNICEF leadership for meetings with partners.
  • Learn to draft and update guidance and fact sheets on engagement with DC partners.
  • Learn to perform ad hoc research on engagement strategies and assist in maintaining up-to-date knowledge management.
  • Learn to compile data, information, and news on subject matter relevant to the work of the office.
  • Learn to attend and report on events or briefings associated with UNICEF’s strategic mission.Support other functions of the Public Partnerships team as needed.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Must be enrolled, within the past year, in an undergraduate or graduate degree program with a preferred major in international development or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills to synthesize and communicate concepts clearly.
  • Ability to conduct research and draft reports.
  • Capacity to work independently on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapt to changing demands and circumstances.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must uphold and demonstrate the UNICEF core values of Commitment, Diversity, and Integrity Ability to conduct research and draft reports.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Salary/Payment: UNICEF will provide a small monthly stipend during the duration of this Internship. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship. UNICEF is not responsible for obtaining any necessary visas.

Visa Information:

In the event that the fellow is expected to report to Washington D.C., United States, they will be responsible for obtaining their G-4 visa before traveling to United States. They will not be permitted to enter the United States without a valid G-4 visa. UNICEF will only issue guidance and a letter stating acceptance of an individual as an intern/fellow and the conditions governing the Internship/Fellowship.

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the volunteer’s service. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrollment in a health/accident plan prior to starting his/her work.

Living and Working Conditions: The internship is full time (40 hours per week). In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Washington DC office will be working remotely for at least some of this period and we will consider applicants who can only work remotely, keeping DC (EST) work hours.
