Overview

You have:

  • Being enrolled at a university, college or in vocational, educational and training school studies in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or any relevant area.
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills;
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of IT systems, networking, and common software applications.
  • Comfortable talking with and interacting with others;
  • Fluency in Romanian, both oral and written. Fluency in Russian/English would be an asset.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Intern

Title of the position: Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Intern

Duration and Period of Internship: up to 6 months

Weekly workload (hours/week): Part Time (up to 50%), hybrid modality (both remote and in-person)

Background

UNFPA is the lead UN agency for delivering a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled. UNFPA’s Strategic Plan for 2022-2025 focuses on three transformative results: to end preventable maternal deaths; end unmet need for family planning; and end gender-based violence and harmful practices. In the Republic of Moldova, UNFPA is implementing its fourth Country Programme for 2023-2027, which is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023 – 2027 for the Republic of Moldova. We work with government institutions, donors, civil society organizations, the private sector, communities, and individuals to make this possible and bring positive changes in the lives of people.

The announced internship position comes as a measure to enable people belonging to groups vulnerable to discrimination to get the necessary skills to further defend and promote their own rights.

Key responsibilities

The ICT Intern will provide support to the UNFPA Moldova CO in maintaining and enhancing its information and communication technology infrastructure and digital presence. This will involve a range of tasks to ensure smooth operations and effective use of technology for programmatic and communication efforts.

General IT Assistance

  • Provide technical support to UNFPA staff for hardware and software issues.
  • Assist in troubleshooting network connectivity problems.
  • Support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer systems and peripherals.
  • Perform regular data backups and ensure data security.
  • Assist in setting up IT equipment for meetings, workshops, and events.
  • Assist in the daily management and technical upkeep of UNFPA Moldova’s digital platforms, including the website and social media channels as necessary.
  • Support the IT aspects of online events, webinars, and virtual meetings.
  • Assist with basic graphic design and multimedia tasks related to digital communication.
  • Contribute to the digitalization of documents and information management processes.
  • Provide technical support for data collection and analysis tools used in programs.
  • Assist in the use of specialized software or online platforms relevant to UNFPA's program areas.
  • Follow up on IT-related requests from UNFPA Moldova staff.
  • Perform other ICT-related support as required.

Eligibility requirements

  • Being enrolled at a university, college or in vocational, educational and training school studies in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or any other relevant area.

  • Motivation, willing to learn and to get involved in the activities.

Minimum qualifications / skills

  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills;
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of IT systems, networking, and common software applications
  • Ability to work well with diverse groups of people;
  • Comfortable talking with and interacting with others;
  • Languages: Fluency in Romanian, both oral and written. Fluency in Russian/ English - would be an asset. Knowledge of one or more other languages relevant for Moldova, including Bulgarian, Gagauzian, Romani, Ukrainian or sign language, is an asset.
