Work Location Victoria, Seychelles

Expected duration 10 Working days

Duties and Responsibilities Organizational Setting and Reporting

The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Mauritius and Seychelles comprises 21 specialized Agencies, Funds and Programmes. The UNCT for Mauritius and Seychelles operates within the framework of the UN Development System Reform in partnership with the Government of Mauritius and Seychelles, the Private Sector and the Civil Society. The work of the UNCT is guided by the Government of Mauritius – United Nations Strategic Partnership Framework (2019 - 2023) and the Government of Seychelles – United Nations Strategic Partnership Framework (2019 – 2023).

In view to strengthen the work of and the collaboration among the UNCT in Mauritius and Seychelles, an annual Strategic UNCT Retreat is organized to assess progress, identify challenges and agree on the way forward for the implementation of the Strategic Partnership Frameworks. The UNCT Retreat provides the UN Country Team, comprised of the Heads of UN agencies with an opportunity to undertake a critical reflection on their performance and partnerships with the expectation that they will make decisions to strengthen the relevance of the UN System in Mauritius and Seychelles as well discuss key priorities for the year ahead. The UNCT Retreat also provided a platform for the UNCT members to engage with relevant partners in strategic areas of focus.

For both Mauritius and Seychelles, 2021 has continued to be a challenging year as both countries were recovering from the socio-economic impact of the pandemic. In addition, as Small Island Developing States, both Mauritius and Seychelles must also deal with other inherent vulnerabilities such as climate change and natural disasters.

The 2022 retreat will be Hybrid and shall take place in Seychelles from 11-13 April 2022. The theme for the 2022 is “Walking Together for Sustainable Development”. The changing environment that was happening in 2021 still remains pertinent and more relevant now than has ever been. The theme re-affirms the need to continuously rekindle our energies to unleash our collective efforts and transformational leadership and calls for always working towards achieving Sustainable Development while adapting to the ever changing environment.

The retreat will, therefore, allow the UNCT to take a purposeful pause and undertake a critical reflection of the past; acknowledge and celebrate successes; identify challenges on delivery/performance taking, plan for the future; and establish improved ‘go-forward’ strategies while taking into consideration global, regional and national contextual analysis to make strategic decisions on the priorities for 2022/2023 considering SIDs vulnerabilities.

Under the overall supervision of the Head of the RCO and in close collaboration with the RCO Staff and selected UNCT members, the consultant will be expected to ¿ Support the preparation of the UNCT Retreat and Retreat materials taking into consideration that the retreat will be hybrid and will bring together stakeholders from Mauritius and Seychelles. ¿ Facilitate the presentation and discussion in the hybrid retreat in an organized manner in view to meet the objectives of the Retreat. This may include the use of effective tools for effective engagement of participants and also organization of team building/leardership exercises ¿ Produce a consolidated report of the UNCT retreat including Retreat Outcomes and key decisions
