Background

UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

The Human Resources Division is currently reviewing job descriptions worldwide. The review will include an evaluation of functional responsibilities, work interrelationships, and organizational congruence, utilizing the International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) classification standards, and UN guidelines for generic job profiles.

Under the direct supervision of the Regional HRBP, the consultant will review job descriptions and provide classification recommendations mainly in support of the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide advisory services in job classification;
  • Provide HR practitioners and staff with the interpretation of job evaluation related policies and practices;
  • Conduct Job Classification within UN Women for posts as required;
  • Provide guidance and advise to the HR team in gaining efficiency in classification process and procedure;
  • Provide support and guidance in establishing repository of classified generic Job Descriptions;

  • Regularly produce reports on the status of job classifications;

  • Advise on other ad hoc tasks related to organizational design;
  • Other related tasks as required by the supervisor and HR team.

Deliverables:

  • Quality and timely review of post classifications and grading recommendations.
  • Quality advice provided to managers and staff.

Required Skills and Experience

Required Qualifications, Experience and skills:

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is required.
  • At least 5 years (for Master’s) of progressively responsible experience at the national and international levels in providing HR advisory services and/or managing responsibilities is required.
  • Experience in job classification processes is required.
  • Excellent knowledge and proven experience in the application of the ICSC job evaluation standards for the Professional and higher categories and General Service Category is required.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Organizational Design theory and practice is an asset.

Language:

  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish is required.
  • Working knowledge of English is required.
  • Knowledge of French is desirable.
