The UNDP Indonesia’s Environment unit, in line with its mission to address environmental degradation and contribute to the reduction of the country's greenhouse gas emissions, has identified key priorities and challenges. These encompass critical sectors such as Forestry, Land Use, and Land Use Change (FOLU), Energy, Waste Management, Agriculture, and the newly added focus on the Blue Economy. The inclusion of the Blue Economy reflects a strategic expansion beyond Indonesia's original Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) to capitalize on the economic and ecological potential in marine and coastal sectors. This encompasses sustainable practices like fisheries, aquaculture, marine tourism, and renewable energy.

Within the ambit of Climate Mitigation, the unit actively participates in various projects centered on emission caps, carbon pricing, and flagship initiatives steering Indonesia towards a sustainable, low- carbon future. Additionally, the unit undertakes efforts to avoid greenhouse gas emissions through projects aimed at maintaining forests and conserving endangered species. These endeavors underscore the unit's commitment to holistic environmental stewardship and align with the broader national and global climate goals.

The primary focus of this position is on providing support to effective program and project management within the UNDP framework. The role involves assisting in enhancing the quality of project formulation and implementation, as well as in the review and compliance of projects’ implementation. The incumbent will support the analysis of donor trends, as well as the trends in the nature, climate and energy sectors, reviewing briefing notes, talking points, offering guidance to program teams on planning, monitoring, and reporting.

1.) Strengthening programme development and advocacy

Example of Duties: • Conduct some research to provide initial analysis and mapping programming opportunities in the areas of nature, climate, and energy (NCE) in relation to the stakeholder landscape in Indonesia. Ensure that the evolution of UNDP’s programming exploits linkages to partner initiatives for a greater collaborative impact. • Support data-driven program design and development with the aim of accelerating the country’s achievement of SDGs and its Nationally Determined Contributions to climate change. • Conduct research on key priority thematic areas; identify and synthesize best practices and lessons learned to inform the adaptation and evolution of UNDP’s programming. • Contribute to the development of knowledge and communication products.

2.) Support to programme management

Example of Duties: • Support the oversight of projects under the NCE programme, under close guidance and consultation with the supervisor and in line with UNDP's programming and operations policies and procedures; • Support on-site monitoring of the work of UNDP projects as well as proactive work planning, risk management, and project management and review processes; • Support review and drafting of project reports, and capturing of results and lessons learned through initiation of project evaluations and corporate results-based reporting processes; • Provide support to consultants, programme /project personnel, and local institutions towards achievement of programme objectives; • Coordinate and participate in programme/project evaluation activities and follow up.

3.) Support to partnerships building and resource mobilization

Example of Duties: • provide draft analysis and research, preparation of substantive inputs to project concepts/briefs, proposals and project documents, and engagement strategies; • Support development of resource mobilization strategies, • Support the sector mapping to inform financing priorities and strategies for NCE • Participate/organize in partner briefings and visits.

4.) Support the results-based management performance of the country office

Example of Duties: • Support the necessary follow-up measures to respond to the recommendations from global audits, regional assessments and corporate actions plans, etc,. • Support the regular oversight and monitoring actions pertaining to overall management performance of the Country Office and provide advice to the supervisor on improvement strategies and action plans; • Support the analysis of the political, social, and economic situation in the country and ensures collaborative and coordinated preparation/revision of Country Programme Document (CPD) and annual business planning, • Support the Integrated Work Plan and results reporting, project documents, policy briefs, review briefing notes, talking points, and other programmatic documents. • Support to identify, promote and facilitate innovative development solutions to the delivery of results. • Support the comprehensive landscape and key stakeholder analysis to determine implementation activities for climate financing, and to identify key stakeholders involved.

5) Contribute to the integration of gender equality aspects in programming, including quality assurance of assigned gender markers, as required.

Example of Duties: • To provide support to focal points on gender within the Environment unit • Work closely with the project teams to integrate gender perspectives into environmental programming and initiatives. • Ensure that gender-related activities within the Environment unit are well-documented and reported as part of regular project updates. • Support the integration of women empowerment and gender equality considerations into the development of concept notes of the pipelined projects.

Experience in monitoring/evaluation as well as in a development country would be an asset. • Languages: Full command of English (writing, speaking, and presentation skills) is required for this position. Bahasa Indonesia skills would be a great asset. • Good knowledge and understanding of climate change, natural resource management, energy, and environmental issues • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in an international environment • Good organizational and analytical skills, initiative and sound judgment; and the ability to work with minimum supervision • Knowledge of the environment/climate vertical funds such as the Global Environment Facility, Green Climate Funds and proven experience of engaging with them is a distinct advantage. • Proven experiences in resource mobilization and business development would be an asset. • Qualified women candidates are preferable

The position will be based in the capital of Jakarta, where basic living needs, including accommodation, banking facilities, medical facilities and telecommunications/internet services are readily available. All staple foods can be found in the markets, e.g.: rice, meat, vegetables, fruit, cooking oil, salt, etc. Also, many imported goods are available in Jakarta and other places throughout Indonesia. Jakarta has many good restaurants with good health standards and most guesthouses provide food.

For the transportation in Indonesia, the most used means of transportation are taxi or local bus. Mobile phone is the most dependable communication tool to be in-touch with colleagues and friends. Internet service is readily available and affordable at most apartment complexes. ATMs are everywhere in Indonesia and Western cards can usually be used to withdraw Indonesian Rupiah.
