The UN Volunteer assignment with UNDP in Thailand will focus on advancing the organization's mission to combat poverty, reduce inequalities, and address the repercussions of climate change. Specifically, guided by the UNDP Strategic Plan and the UNDP Thailand Country Programme, UNDP Thailand is supporting the Thai Government on just energy transition. The UN Volunteer will play very instrumental role to support for UNDP Thailand's initiatives in this thematic area with the functions that will include project planning, implementation, and monitoring. S/he will conduct research and analysis on various relevant topics. S/he will contribute to the capacity building, reporting, community engagement, and coordination with partners are integral aspects of the role. Furthermore, the UN Volunteer will engage with the private sector, advocate for addressing impacts of climate change, promote equality and youth engagement, and handle administrative tasks as needed.

Under the direct supervision of the Integrated Team Leader, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Project Support: Assist in the planning, implementation, and monitoring of UNDP Thailand in the implementation of targeted projects aimed at addressing energy transition, climate change impacts, and digital transformation, in collaboration with local partners and communities. Specifically, focus on Enhancing Climate Resilience, Thailand National Adaptation, renewable energy, green energy, and others. Research and Analysis: Conduct research on impact of climate change on local communities and the nature of Thailand. Specifically, focus on the topic of social disparities, climate vulnerabilities, energy transition, waste management, e-vehicles, digital transformation, and others. Provide analytical reports to support decision-making. Capacity Building: Collaborate with team members to strengthen the capacity of local partners and stakeholders in the lead areas of UNDP country office in Thailand. Reporting: Support preparation of regular progress reports and contribute to the preparation of project evaluations. Community Engagement: Engage with local communities and relevant stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure the project's alignment with their needs. Private Sector Engagement: Support engagement with local and international private sector companies to find common areas of collaboration and project opportunities. Support the country program team in mapping the private sector for engagement with UNDP. Coordination: Support coordination with relevant UN agencies, youth groups and partners (e.g. Thailand Youth Climate Action Agenda) to advance UNDP’s work in Thailand Advocacy: Support advocacy efforts related to climate change, equality, digital transformation, and youth engagement, and represent the organization at relevant meetings and events. Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative tasks as needed, including budget management, procurement, and logistics, under the guidance of relevant project managers and/or program team. Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

or demonstrated interest in environmental science and policy, social policy, public policy, politics, economics or a related area. • Strong passion and genuine interest in sustainable development, poverty alleviation, social inclusion, and climate change issues. • Basic understanding of key concepts related to poverty, inequalities, digital transformation, and climate change, and eagerness to learn and deepen this knowledge. • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey ideas clearly and collaborate with team members and partners. • Ability to work in a collaborative environment, contributing positively to group discussions and valuing diverse perspectives. • Basic data collection and analysis skills to support project monitoring and evaluation activities. • Proficiency in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office) for documentation, data entry, and basic reporting.

Experience:

• Involvement in academic or extracurricular activities related to poverty reduction, community engagement, or climate action. • Any internship, volunteer work, or short-term projects that demonstrate exposure to development issues, teamwork, and an eagerness to learn. • Familiarity with basic project management principles, even if gained through coursework or practical experiences like organizing events or initiatives.
