Background

The UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women (UN Trust Fund) was established by General Assembly Resolution 50/166, with UN Women as the Fund’s Administrator on behalf of the UN system. The UN Trust Fund is the only multilateral grant-making mechanism providing support for civil society organizations and women’s rights organizations working to address the global pandemic of violence against women and girls. To date, the UN Trust Fund has awarded USD 198 million to 609 initiatives in 140 countries and territories.

In September 2017, the European Union and United Nations launched the Spotlight Initiative to end all forms of violence against women and girls. One of its central objectives is to strengthen women’s movements – the “crucial driver of progress” in ending violence against women – across the world.[1] The UN Trust Fund, as the only global demand-driven grant-making mechanism specialized in ending violence against women and girls, is uniquely positioned to contribute to realizing this goal through funding contextually relevant initiatives and providing support to grantees, many of which are small, women-led and women’s rights organizations.

The partnership between the UN Trust Fund and the Spotlight Initiative Secretariat has since been further strengthened with support and collaborations on multiple occasions and on multiple aspects, including on elevating feminist civil society-led practice-based knowledge. In March 2022, the UN Trust Fund and the Spotlight Initiative Secretariat introduced SHINE – an online knowledge hub for exchange knowledge where civil society, government actors and practitioners alike can discuss and advocate for ways to prevent and end violence against women. The UN Trust Fund aims to promote SHINE using a holistic approach including: amplifying knowledge products, initiating and creating discussions on SHINE, producing and disseminating external facing content that conveys both technical knowledge and advocacy messages. The UN Trust Fund requires a full-time Knowledge Management Advocacy and Communications Consultant to contribute to and support tasks needed to contribute to the growth of SHINE in scope and quality.

Under the supervision of the UN Trust Fund External Relations and Advocacy Analyst, the Consultant will contribute to creating and disseminating communications tools through existing UN Trust Fund platforms to further build and maintain SHINE as a powerful knowledge exchange hub focusing on practice-based knowledge. The Consultant will support the UN Trust Fund’s Knowledge Management and Global Giving team with coordinating and delivering specific tasks as relevant to the UN Trust Fund’s external communications and advocacy activities to amplify civil society-led practice-based knowledge.
