Duties and Responsibilities

This junior consultancy is located within the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS) of the United Nations Development Coordination Office (UN DCO) Headquarters in New York.

In its resolution A/RES/72/279 (https://undocs.org/A/RES/72/279), the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of DCO as a stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat. The new DCO assumes managerial and oversight functions of the Resident Coordinator System (RCS) under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG).

The incumbent reports to the communications digital strategist and is under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Communications and Results Reporting Section.

SCOPE OF WORK

Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties:

Task 1: Support and enhance DCO-backed UN country teams websites, including the annual UN country team e-Reports

  • Serves as focal point for UN country teams (UNCT) websites; supporting colleagues across the RCS to enhance communications and results reporting through their websites, responding to their requests related to website maintenance and enhancements and connecting UNCT focal points with colleagues in the Development Coordination Office (DCO) New York and/or in the DCO regional offices (RO) as appropriate;
  • Coordinate and resolve, with the assistance of the external vendor, the tracking and resolution of bug fixes or other technical issues that clients might encounter.

  • Performs thorough quality assurance (QA) checks of the enhancements undertaken by the external vendor (This includes, but not limited to, QA of technical performance, responsiveness, accessibility, editorial, and data integration from UN INFO and other open data tools).

  • Contributes to further the development and implementation of different language versions of the UNCT websites, including the annual e-reports subject to funding availability;

  • Provide logistical support to different DCO departments such as ICT regarding the development and maintenance of the DCO-backed websites, including regularly updating repositories of the websites and focal points, urls, and other data, including related to its institutional history.

Qualifications/special skills

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, or a related field. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Experience

• A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, digital marketing, or related area including managing social media platforms with the United Nations System. • Experience in onboarding new websites, supporting and/or managing functional aspects of web content management systems is required; • Experience managing digital products and websites in content management systems (e.g., Drupal, WordPress) is required; • Advanced knowledge of web content standards (Search Engine Optimization, accessibility) and best practices in producing and publishing web content is required; • Experience working with external vendors and developers to track website requests on platforms such as GitHub or Gitlab is required; • Experience in performing Quality Assurance reviews of website-related technical issues is required; • Experience using PowerBi, data visualization tools, and Google Analytics is required; • Basic understanding of HTML and websites and knowledge of cybersecurity policies is desirable • Excellent communication and people skills.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of one or more official UN languages is required.
