Result of Service A. Web design support to the publication of the 2022 Highlights of Security Council Practice - Phase I – Design phase (10 work days): (i) develop the mock-up for 2022 Highlights based on the UN Web Style Guide based on the 2021 and 2020 Highlights, (ii) conduct consultations with SCPCRB and (iii) implement comments, feedback and inputs from SCPCRB. - Phase II – Implementation phase (10 work days): develop the online and print versions of the 2022 Highlights ready to be published by no later than 14 January 2022 ensuring compliance with all relevant UN standards for design and accessibility. - Phase III – Deployment and launching (10 work days): release of the 2022 Highlights of Security Council and provide troubleshooting support if necessary and support for the deployment of the French edition as necessary.

B. Design new interactive website on the working methods of the Security Council - Phase I – Design and consultations phase (20 work days): (i) design the layout and develop mock-ups of a new website on the working methods of the Security Council with graphics and data analytics solutions ensuring compliance with all relevant UN standards for design and accessibility., (ii) conduct consultations with SCPCRB and relevant stakeholders, including donor and (iii) implement comments, feedback and inputs. - Phase II – Implementation and soft launch phase (20 work days): (i) develop a new website on the working methods of the Security Council for testing and feedback with a view to conduct a soft launch of the prototype with a designated “focus group” by no later than mid-April 2023, (ii) collect feedback and identification of opportunities for improvement with target audience, and (iii) implement comments, feedback and inputs. - Phase III - Deployment and launching (20 work days): (i) launch the newly established interactive website on the working methods of the Security Council, compatible on all desktops and mobile devices, for target audience, with a focus on incoming elected Council members and (ii) provide troubleshooting support for a newly launched page if necessary.

Work Location Position is remotely based

Expected duration The assignment will be undertaken for a total of 90 working days between 1 October 2022 and 31 March 2023 during an approximate period of 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities The Security Council Practices and Charter Research Branch (SCPCRB) of the Security Council Affairs Division (SCAD), in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) is seeking a part-time User Interaction / User Experience / Designer to join and support the team responsible for the yearly publication “Highlights of Security Council Practice” (for reference see the latest edition: 2021 Highlights of Security Council Practice) and the launching of a new interactive website on the working methods of the Security Council.

The UI/UX/Designer will be expected to: A. Provide web design support to the publication of the Highlights of Security Council Practice consistent with the design of previous years’ online and print versions maintaining interactivity and user-friendliness of the publication based on Power BI graphs and data analytics and ensuring compliance with relevant UN standards for design and accessibility; and B. Design a new webpage of the UN Security Council website on the working methods of the Security Council with a focus on interactivity, user-friendliness and optimal performance, ensuring rapid access to all necessary information and documentation by delegates of Council and non-Council members and compliance with relevant UN standards for design and accessibility.

The role will require in-depth conversations with the team in SCPCRB, collaboration with the UN Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT) as well as the Department of Global Communications (DGC).

Qualifications/special skills Education: - Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in graphic design, web design, graphic arts, architecture or a related field.

Experience: - A minimum of three years of experience in graphic design, web design, graphic arts, architecture or a related field is required. - Experience designing for web (desktop and mobile) including Responsive Web Design is required. - Experience working through the design process, from concept to completion, on both new and existing projects is required. - Working knowledge of Power BI is required. - Working knowledge and experience of Adobe products – Photoshop, Illustrator and Tableau (or equivalents) is desirable. - Working knowledge of Drupal is desirable. - Working knowledge of Git / Git Hub is desirable. - Experience implementing UN standards for design and accessibility of websites is desirable.

Language: - Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and French) is desirable.

Additional Information The individual contractor will undertake the assignment remotely and will attend meetings virtually, as necessary, in order to achieve the most optimal use of the time to achieve the deliverables outlined above. The individual contractor will work under the direct supervision of the designated officer of the Security Council Practices and Charter Research Branch acting as the designated focal point on behalf of the Director of SCAD.
