You have:

  • Knowledge of clean energy procurement and associated attribute certificate tracking.
  • Research, writing, verbal, and organizational skills.
  • Computer skills, including proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (experience with webinar and virtual event production is preferred).
  • Experience: Prior experience with U.S. electricity sector policy and technology is preferred, but not required.
  • Strong candidates will have significant experience conducting high-level research and translating research into presentations.

About the Program:

WRI’s Energy Program speeds the transition to a low-carbon, inclusive energy future by helping to build clean energy markets and change institutions. The U.S. Energy team focuses on decarbonization of the power and transportation sectors, with a focus of working with cities, large energy buyers, and utilities. We take public commitments as a starting point and push forward policies, projects, and programs that accelerate and deliver change on the ground.

This position is remote.

What you will do:

In this role, you will provide support to WRI’s U.S. Energy team, with a focus on advancing decarbonization in electricity markets and innovative clean energy procurement strategies for large energy buyers. This intern position will provide support on a variety of topics related to clean energy, including:

  • Addressing wholesale electricity market issues affecting clean energy deployment.
  • Supporting cohorts of local governments develop and implement decarbonization initiatives for the buildings and transportation sectors.
  • Engaging with stakeholders on GHG emissions data needs.
  • Advancing the deployment of distributed energy resources and the participation in virtual power plants.
  • You may support through research, content development and logistics.
  • You may also translate complex research, related to topics such as greenhouse gas accounting and wholesale electricity markets, into digestible documents and presentations.
  • You may help with drafting and editing memos, background notes, slide decks, and web content; conducting literature reviews; creating data visuals and presentation decks; conducting outreach to project stakeholders and partners; developing project proposals and preparing reports for funders; producing webinars and virtual events; and assisting with other tasks as needed.

You will report to Senior Manager, Clean Energy in this role and be supported by the U.S. Energy team in this role, including staff across a host of projects. Your work with other team staff will be coordinated by your supervisor. The expected length of this role is 4 months with the potential for extension into the summer months.

Internship Learning Outcomes:

  • Conduct high-quality research on addressing clean energy market barriers, advancing strategies for greenhouse gas emission credit tracking.
  • Collect, clean, organize, analyze, and visualize data in support of new or ongoing projects.
  • Research, draft, and edit case studies, memos, blogs, and WRI knowledge products and resources content development.
  • Communicate research on complex topics to internal audiences.
  • Write internal products, such as memos, and support development of external-facing products with manager guidance.
  • Logistics and facilitation support.
  • Organize and carry out webinars and virtual events related to electric vehicle infrastructure, clean energy markets.
  • Support communications and operations efforts.
  • Assist with developing projects, guiding cohorts, and learning groups, and reporting to funders.

Compensation

The pay for this internship opportunity is $20 for undergrads and $22 for graduates.

Length of Contract:

This is a part-time (10 hours/week), 4-month internship with a flexible start and end date.

Location:

  • This is a remote-based internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C. office once it reopens.
  • WRI will provide a laptop for the duration of your internship.
