Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the general supervision of the Chief of the English Section in Language Services of the Corporate Services and Facilities (CSF) Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the candidate will provide accurate, timely and stylistically appropriate translations from French and Spanish into English, using word processing, spreadsheet, and other relevant software, including CAT tools. Command of at least one additional source language would be considered an asset Specifically, the selected candidate will:

Translate, mostly without revision, texts covering the full range of Fund documents and publications. Revise and/or review translations prepared by freelancers. Post-edit machine-generated translations to ensure they are accurate, fluent, and contextually appropriate. Identify and research points of terminology, language, and subject matter during assignments consulting with authors and other experts to clarify ambiguities. Contribute to updating and maintaining the translation memories, the terminology database, and related reference material. Provide guidance and assistance to freelance translators on IMF-specific concepts, specialized terminology and house style and conventions for English usage. Perform other related duties, as assigned.

In addition to the qualifications set forth in the job standards, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

Academic qualifications

For Grade 11, educational development, typically acquired by the completion of an advanced university degree, or equivalent, in translation, linguistics, economics, or a related field, supplemented by a minimum of four years of relevant work experience, is required. Alternatively, a university degree and ten years of relevant professional experience is required.

Languages

Must be a native speaker of English, have excellent knowledge of French; advanced knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese would be considered an asset. Have considerable professional experience in translation into English of economic and financial texts of a complex nature for governments, financial institutions and/or an international financial institution. Experience in revising the work of other translators. Experience in financial and economic terminology work is preferred.

Professional experience and knowledge

Considerable professional experience in translating economic and financial texts of a difficult and complex nature for a government, a large-scale private organization, or an international organization.

Reasonable experience in revising the work of other translators.

Progressive experience in project resource management (freelancers) would be an asset.

Ability to deliver within the assigned deadline, while complying with quality standards. Technology: Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and other relevant software, including computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools. Continuous learning: Keep abreast of new developments in the translation field, e.g., CAT tools, translation memories, machine translation and related innovations. Planning and organizing: Ability to work efficiently under pressure. Ability to identify and reshuffle priorities and plan for timely delivery. Teamwork: Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively in a team. Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships in a multinational environment.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to take translation/revision tests and will be invited to an interview.

This vacancy shall be filled by a 3-year Term appointment in accordance with the IMF’s employment rules that took effect on May 1, 2015.
