Overview

Translate various communication materials to Urdu for UNIC Islamabad.

You have:

  • 1st level University degree in English language, journalism, communication, social sciences or any related field is a minimum requirement.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant translation experience.
  • Fluency in English and Urdu is required (writing, speaking, and comprehension).
  • Certificate in Inpage is required.
  • Prior training and experience in translation will be highly considered.
  • Knowledge of UN System rules, regulations, procedures and systems is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to work in a high-volume, changing environment on tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office suite, Info page).

Result of Service The role of the individual contractor will be to specifically support the UNIC Islamabad in translating the different publications/website material/op-eds/ social media messages into Urdu.

Work Location Islamabad

Expected duration October – December 2022

Duties and Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the UNIC Islamabad Public Information Officer, the individual contractor will be responsible to ensure the efficient and timely translation of different communication materials to Urdu at the highest level.

The translator will provide written translations and their editing to ensure proper quality and reflection of content.

Main areas of responsibility:

Translation of official publications, reports, documents, social media messages and correspondence in a culturally appropriate and concise manner from English to Urdu.

Facilitate and support UNIC Islamabad with drafting, translating and proofreading the different communication material.

Provide guidance on improving the translation of different documents that correspond to the local culture.

Perform other related tasks/assignments as may be assigned by the Public Information Officer.

Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: 1st level University degree in English language, journalism, communication, social sciences or any other related field is a minimum requirement.

Prior training and experience in translation will be highly considered.

Certificate in Inpage Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of relevant translation experience, preferably with foreign missions in Pakistan, governmental or non-governmental organizations.

Prior experience in working with large volumes of translation for web and official placements in local media.

Knowledge of UN System rules, regulations, procedures and systems is considered an asset.

Must be able to work in a high-volume, changing environment on tight deadlines.
