You have:
- Proven experience in English-Dari translation, preferably in the humanitarian, legal, or community information field
- Strong command of Dari, including grammar, spelling, and cultural nuances
- Ability to produce clear, user-friendly translations from English
- Previous experience with NGOs, UN agencies, or community-based work is an asset
- Familiarity with refugee protection, statelessness, or community outreach is desirable but not required
- Asylum-seeking, refugee, and stateless individuals are particularly encouraged to apply and contribute their unique perspectives

As part of its Communicating with Communities (CwC) approach, UNHCR manages country-specific HELP websites across Central Asia – including Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The HELP page is currently being updated and expanded to cover a broader range of topics to better serve diverse needs. This platform will provide refugees, asylum-seekers and stateless people with accurate, up-to-date, and user-friendly information about their rights, asylum procedures, available services such as education, the DAFI scholarship programme, resettlement and complementary pathways, and how to access assistance, including contact details of supporting organizations. To ensure inclusivity, UNHCR is also making these resources available in multiple languages, including Dari, to reach a wider audience.
The online volunteer will support UNHCR’s efforts to expand access to protection-related information by translating content for the HELP websites from English into Dari. The total volume of text is approximately 20,000 words, divided into 11 topics covering five countries and key thematic areas.
Specifically, the volunteer will:
Translate user-friendly, non-technical information on asylum procedures, rights and obligations, available services (e.g., education, resettlement, complementary pathways), and contact information for support organizations
Ensure that the translated content is accurate, clear, culturally appropriate, and easy to understand
Review and revise translations based on feedback from UNHCR staff
Provide suggestions or comments on how to improve the clarity, tone, and accessibility of both the English source text and the Dari translation
Contribute to the inclusivity and accessibility of the HELP pages for Dari-speaking refugees, asylum-seekers, and stateless persons in Central Asia
The translated content will be published on UNHCR HELP website.
