OHCHR as part of its mandate, collects information from a number of information providers and Open Sources. Some of this information is in Sinhalese language (Sri Lanka). OHCHR is seeking assistance to translate a number of public documents written in Sinhalese to English. To that end, the Office is seeking to collaborate with Online Volunteers with professional background in translation and/or legal skills to support the translation of these publicly available documents, including legal document(s). Experience translating legal documents is an advantage.

The Online Volunteers would provide support to the mandate of OHCHR by translating publicly available documents from Sinhalese to English. To this end the Online Volunteers are tasked: - To translate and/or proofread the translation of Sinhalese documents, ranging from 20 to 120 pages into English and ensure that the translation is correct. The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with the documents in the original language and will receive guidance on confidentiality standards.

Academic background University degree or equivalent in law, human rights, education, languages, or social sciences. A high school diploma may be considered with years of qualifying experience.

Required experience Candidates should be fluent in Sinhalese and English language. Familiarity with legal terms and human rights will be considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is considered an asset. Legal and/or human rights background is desirable.
