Since 2021, UEFA and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, have been working together to improve the lives of displaced people through the transformative power of football; to assist and uphold their rights and foster better inclusion in the communities generously hosting them.
As part of the UEFA Football Sustainability Strategy 2030, UEFA actively promotes the integration of refugees, asylum-seekers and displaced individuals within host communities through football.
UNHCR has developed the UNHCR Sport Strategy – More than a Game – which outlines the role that sports and sports organizations can play in improving the lives of displaced and stateless people and in supporting integration with host communities .
In December 2024, the Kazakhstan Football Federation (KFF) was awarded a grant. The project will include:
• Two Football Tournaments with refugees and asylum-seekers: The first tournament is scheduled for 22 March 2024, with the second planned for June 2025 to correspond with World Refugee Day
• Coaching and Refereeing Courses: Training opportunities for 10–20 refugees, with potential job placement support – timing (April-June – TBC)
• Awareness-Raising Video Podcasts: Production of four video podcasts featuring UN representatives and refugees, aimed at increasing public understanding of the challenges faced by forcibly displaced persons in Kazakhstan.
Objective:
To build understanding of the challenges faced by refugees, asylum-seekers, and refugee-like population in Kazakhstan, celebrating diversity, generating empathy and mobilising social and political support to promote their integration into society.
We are seeking 1 Online Volunteer to support us by translating consent forms on football topic from Dari to Russian and Kazakh. To this end the Online Volunteers are asked: - To translate the document, which is 5 long into Russian and Kazakh - Ensure the translation is concise, in line with our communications guidelines, and fits the audience
The selected Online Volunteer will be provided with the document in the original language and will receive guidance on the target audience and our communications guidelines as well as other guidance as needed.
The Online Volunteer will have the opportunity to build connections with UNHCR Kazakhstan team.
Candidates should be native in Dari and fluent in Russian and Kazakh. Familiarity with technical terms related to sport will be considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is considered an asset.
