Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

Climate change affects and is a cross-cutting issue for all people, Member States, academia, environmental agencies, civil-society organizations, private sector, and UN agencies. To enable discussions and actions to address climate change, it is important to build people’s science-based knowledge on climate science. With this goal, ten UN agencies (UNESCO, ILO, IOM, UNDP, UNDRR, UNEP, UN ESCAP, UNFCCC, UNICEF, UNOSSC) are engaged in a working group under the UN Issue Based Coalition (IBC) on Raising Ambitions on Climate Actions in Asia and the Pacific. Jointly the ten UN agencies produced a series of ‘Climate Science Education Materials’ including 28 posters, 25 social media graphics, and 3 short videos. All climate science education products can be accessed at the UNESCO Bangkok website (https://bangkok.unesco.org/content/climate-science-literacy-asia-pacific). To have greater impact at the local level including by enhancing knowledge and inspiring climate action, the climate science knowledge products are being translated into local languages.

We are seeking 2 Online Volunteers to support us by translating 28 posters, 25 social media graphics, and 3 video sub-titles from English to Lao. To this end, Online Volunteers are asked: • To translate 28 posters, 25 social media graphics, and subtitles of 3 short videos. • Ensure that translated products adhere to the template (original design) • Use language that is easy to understand for young learners and the public and ensure the translation is concise, in line with UN Editorial Manual, and fits the audience • If the volunteer is familiar with Adobe InDesign, support the design of translated mate-rials into the original design format The selected Online Volunteers will be provided with the document in the English language and will receive guidance on the target audience and our communications guidelines as well as other guidance as needed.

Candidates should be native in Lao and fluent in English. Familiarity with technical terms related to climate science will be considered an advantage. Previous translation experience is considered an asset. A one-paragraph translation will be requested as part of the selection process.
