Translate crucial health advocacy factsheets into Arabic.

You have:

  • Fluency in Arabic (native or near-native level) with strong writing skills.
  • Excellent command of French and/or English, depending on the original language of the factsheets.
  • Familiarity with public health terminology, particularly in WHO, UN, and international development contexts.
  • Understanding of key topics such as universal health coverage, disease prevention, maternal & child health, climate-health, and health systems strengthening.
  • Proven experience translating policy briefs, reports, or factsheets for international organizations (WHO, UN, NGOs, government bodies, or research institutions).
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills to ensure accuracy, coherence, and consistency in terminology.
  • Ability to use WHO and UN-approved Arabic terminology to ensure alignment with global health communications standards.
  • Proficiency in Publisher to ensure the translated text is formatted correctly within the existing factsheet layout.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality translations within the agreed timeline.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively with WHO teams, incorporating feedback and revisions as needed.

These factsheets play a crucial role in advocacy efforts for several reasons: 1. Communicating Key Messages Clearly: They provide concise, evidence-based information on critical health issues, ensuring that decision-makers, partners, and stakeholders quickly grasp the key priorities. 2. Supporting Policy Influence & Decision-Making: By summarizing essential data and recommendations, these factsheets help policymakers and government officials make informed decisions aligned with national health strategies. 3. Strengthening Stakeholder Engagement: They serve as a valuable tool for engaging donors, development partners, and the private sector, encouraging investment in health programs. 4. Enhancing Public Awareness & Mobilization: By simplifying complex health challenges, they raise awareness among communities, civil society organizations, and media, fostering stronger public support for health initiatives. 5. Facilitating Multilingual Accessibility: Translating these factsheets into Arabic ensures broader accessibility and engagement, particularly with Arabic-speaking policymakers, local organizations, and communities in Mauritania and the region. 6. Aligning with Global & National Health Agendas: They help align local advocacy efforts with WHO’s global health priorities, SDGs, and Mauritania’s national health strategy, reinforcing the urgency of targeted interventions.

The WHO Mauritania Country Office has developed two-page factsheets to support advocacy efforts. Originally written in French and/or English, we are looking for one online volunteer to help us translate 12 factsheets into Arabic.

To ensure accurate, high-quality translation of the WHO Mauritania advocacy factsheets into Arabic, the translator should possess the following skills and experience:

  1. Language Proficiency ✅ Fluency in Arabic (native or near-native level) with strong writing skills. ✅ Excellent command of French and/or English, depending on the original language of the factsheets.

  2. Technical Expertise in Health & Development Topics ✅ Familiarity with public health terminology, particularly in WHO, UN, and international development contexts. ✅ Understanding of key topics such as universal health coverage, disease prevention, maternal & child health, climate-health, and health systems strengthening.

  3. Experience in Translating Advocacy and Technical Documents ✅ Proven experience translating policy briefs, reports, or factsheets for international organizations (WHO, UN, NGOs, government bodies, or research institutions). ✅ Ability to translate complex technical content accurately while maintaining clarity and readability for diverse audiences, including policy-makers, donors, and community stakeholders.

  4. Cultural and Contextual Awareness ✅ Sensitivity to linguistic nuances and regional variations of Arabic, ensuring that the translation is clear, culturally appropriate, and aligned with the Mauritanian and broader MENA context.

  5. Attention to Detail & Quality Assurance ✅ Strong editing and proofreading skills to ensure accuracy, coherence, and consistency in terminology. ✅ Ability to use WHO and UN-approved Arabic terminology to ensure alignment with global health communications standards.

  6. Formatting and Technical Skills ✅ Proficiency in Publisher to ensure the translated text is formatted correctly within the existing factsheet layout.

  7. Ability to Meet Deadlines & Work Professionally ✅ Ability to deliver high-quality translations within the agreed timeline. ✅ Capacity to work collaboratively with WHO teams, incorporating feedback and revisions as needed.
