Result of Service

The Translation and Coordination Assistant will contribute towards the following outputs: • Translation/Interpretation services to the RC/RCO provided; • Simple correspondences properly drafted; • Official letters and speeches formatted according to standards; • Administrative support to the Executive Office provided; • Chrono files and contact information in the Executive Office kept updated; • Ad hoc tasks assigned by the supervisor delivered.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the primary supervision of Executive Associate to the Resident Coordinator, the The Translation and Coordination Assistant will undertake the following tasks: • Provide written translation and interpretation services (English to Chinese and Chinese to English) of various materials, including official correspondence, speeches, documents and oral interpretation during meetings; Review and edit translation of documents in coordination with other team members • Prepare simple official correspondences by the UN Resident Coordinator; Finalize official documents submitted to the Executive Office • Provide administrative support to the UNRC • Coordinate internally and externally to support UNRC’s missions • Support the chrono filing and contact information database in the Executive Office • Complete other ad hoc tasks as requested by the office and/or supervisor The project rationale is to support the coordination of all UN organizations dealing with operational activities for development, aiming to improve efficiency and effectiveness at the country level. The context of the required services involves working within the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in China, which leads and supports inter-agency coordination. The work is relevant as it directly contributes to the functioning of the UN system at the country level and the delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF). Stakeholders include the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Country Team, and various inter-agency working mechanisms and groups.

Qualifications/special skills

The ideal candidate should have a Graduate or undergraduate degree with major in English (translation/interpretation), international relations, public administration or other relevant areas. An undergraduate degree is the minimum education level required. Experience in translation of official documents and communications materials is preferred 1 - 3 years of working experience in coordination and administration Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; abilities to deal with different stakeholders Knowledge of UN system and its mandate is desirable
