Why we are recruiting

The World Economic Forum provides its stakeholders with a platform to engage with the Forum, each other, and the public through in-person and virtual events. The Content and Interaction Team is responsible for stewarding the Forum’s China-related content and events. This team provides consistent events architecture and services that support the Forum’s value proposition and impact agenda.

Reporting Lines & Interactions

The Translation and Content Specialist will report to the Programme and Content Lead of the Content and Interaction Team, Greater China. The role will be responsible for providing high-quality English-Chinese translation and editing, and supporting the Forum China Office's internal communication and marketing.

Breakdown of Main Responsibilities

Translation and Editing (60%)

  • Provide or facilitate high-quality English-Chinese translation and editing service for the Forum's events, initiatives and other materials.
  • Coordinate with relevant global teams and optimize the internal translation process to ensure the timely and efficient delivery of all documents.
  • Manage the relationship with translation agencies and assess the quality of their work.
  • Regularly update the Forum’s internal translation guideline, such as a glossary, to ensure the consistency of the Forum’s terminology.

Consecutive Interpretation (10%)

  • Provide accurate and fluent English - Chinese consecutive interpretation service for the Forum’s senior executives’ external meetings and visits.

Internal Communication and Marketing Content Development (30%)

  • Support the design and development of the Forum China Office’s marketing content and materials, including collecting information from relevant teams, drafting documents, and regularly updating materials.
  • Support the execution of the Forum China Office’s internal communication strategy by developing key messages and impact stories of the team for the Forum’s key internal channels.
  • Collaborate with relevant global teams to ensure the Forum China Office’s messages are well aligned with the Forum’s global communication and marketing strategy.

The Successful Candidate will be assessed on

  • Accuracy, fluency, and elegance of the translation and editing services for the Forum's content products.
  • Fluency and accuracy of consecutive interpretation
  • Effective project management skills, including identifying priorities and timeline management for multiple assignments, delivering on time and budget, and improving the working process.
  • Effective coordination skills, including bridging internal requirements and external resources, negotiating and managing agencies and providing feedback.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communications with internal and external audiences.
  • Developing a strong understanding of the Forum’s mission and aligning responsibilities and assignments.

Preferred Requirements and Experience

  • An advanced degree in language, translation, communication or other relevant fields, 3+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proven track record of hands-on English-Chinese translation, interpretation and editing experience.
  • Excellent proficiency in both written and spoken English and Chinese.
  • Demonstrated experience with agency management, multitask planning and cross-team coordination.
  • Strong sense of responsibility, service-oriented, the ability to work independently and in teams, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to navigate and thrive in international, fast-pacing and challenging environments.
  • Marketing and communication sense and skills are a plus.
