Contract
This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.
During the Summit of the Future in September 2024 world leaders adopted a Pact for the Future that includes a Global Digital Compact and a Declaration on Future Generations (A/RES/79/1). The Pact covers a broad range of themes, including peace and security, sustainable development, climate change, digital cooperation, human rights, gender, youth and future generations, and the transformation of global governance.
The Pact for the Future represents an opportunity to engage younger generations as active architects of a sustainable, equitable future. With 70% of the population in Africa below 30 years old, translating the Pact into language, narratives, and examples that align with Gen Z's values and priorities is essential for mobilizing their energy and creativity. By framing the Pact as a movement they can shape and lead, we can ensure its vision resonates with and empowers this vital demographic.
As digital natives, Gen Z gravitates toward clear, conversational language and authentic messaging over formal jargon. Their preferred platforms, from TikTok to Instagram, thrive on relatable, visually engaging, and emotionally resonant content. Moreover, they seek to be co-leaders of change, not passive recipients of decisions made by older generations.
- Messaging Framework:
• Develop a concise text document summarizing the Pact for the Future into language and themes that resonate with Gen Z. • Highlight relatable examples, metaphors, and narratives tailored to Gen Z priorities such as climate action, equality, and innovation. • Include key phrases, slogans, and storytelling approaches for engaging African Gen Z audiences.
- Output
Create 7 one-pagers summarizing the contents of each Pact for the Future chapter, plus the annexes, using clear, engaging, and accessible language:
Sustainable Development and Financing: Simplify the importance of sustainable economies, climate finance, and inclusive growth. Explain and show how Gen Z can shape and contribute to these themes.
International Peace and Security: Summarize the main contents of this chapter and highlight how young people (could) contribute to conflict resolution, peacebuilding, and fostering secure communities.
Science, Technology, Innovation (STI), and Digital Cooperation: Explain the importance of this chapter and collective action on these themes. And highlight the potential of tech-driven solutions for equality, education, and connectivity and showcase Gen Z’s role as innovators in driving ethical AI, digital inclusion, and tech for good.
Youth: Break down the chapter as laid out in the Pact for the Future. Celebrate young people’s leadership, amplify examples of youth initiatives, and position them as co-leaders of global change.
Transforming Global Governance: Simplify governance concepts and explain how Gen Z can advocate for transparent, inclusive decision-making structures.
Global Digital Compact (annex): Explain the importance of this annex and showcase the potential of these frameworks to foster digital inclusion, ethical innovation, and sustainability. Highlight Gen Z’s pivotal role as digital pioneers, advocating for fair tech policies, and driving transformative change through technology and activism.
Declaration on Future Generations (annex): Break down the chapter and explain in simple language and terms with this means and why this is important. Emphasizes that the choices we make now, from how we use resources to the policies we create, will shape the world for generations to come.
Incorporate compelling Africa-specific examples into each one-pager to demonstrate how young people across the continent are actively contributing to these themes. Examples should meet the following criteria:
• Relevance to the chapter themes: Ensure examples directly illustrate the key focus areas, providing concrete and relatable insights. • Use of innovative, African youth-led approaches: Highlight creative, scalable, and impactful initiatives spearheaded by young people, emphasizing their leadership and ingenuity. • Transparency and due diligence: Prioritize initiatives with a proven track record of success, robust accountability mechanisms, and an existing connection to UN programs, projects, or partnerships.
