ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

We are seeking to fill a Training Specialist position based remotely with international travel to deliver courses when it is safe to do so.

The global context in which WFP operates is rapidly changing which means that the need for equipping our people with the relevant, required capabilities to enable WFP to meet its vision of zero hunger has never been so crucial.

Our team, the Global Surge Coordination Unit within the Emergency Operations Division, is currently recruiting for a Training Specialist to contribute to WFP’s Learning transformation.

JOB PURPOSE

Within the context of the global pandemic, our face-to-face training initiatives have been redesigned for online delivery and are being rolled out via interactive webinars. This role will be responsible for developing and delivering world-class learning programmes online and then face to face when it is safe to do so, in order to ensure WFP’s global workforce is equipped with the required skills and capabilities to achieve its strategic objectives. The role will focus on servicing a range of internal clients and external stakeholders across the humanitarian world with targeted and bespoke learning solutions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

• Design, develop and facilitate world-class learning solutions online and face to face in line with the Emergency Operations Division’s learning strategy to create a pool of high performing humanitarian leaders and responders;
• Develop interactive, creative session plans for online and in-person delivery to meet pre-established learning objectives of the SURGE Emergency Responder Learning Path;
• Deliver learner-centric, participatory webinars for our emergency responder training courses, making use of the latest online facilitation tools on the market;
• Adapt and optimise existing training materials and manuals for online delivery creating engaging, interactive learning experiences;

• Develop needs-based custom online learning journeys in WFP’s Learning Management System (CrossKnowledge LMS) to meet the requirements of the SURGE Emergency Responder Learning Path aimed at suitably equipping staff to deploy globally;
• Design and facilitate Training of Trainers to enable large scale standardized inductions to be run worldwide;
• Implement training evaluation processes (Kirkpatrick Levels 1-4) to measure the effectiveness of courses;
• Facilitate and advise on workshops and training events for other divisions and partners as requested
• Liaise with other WFP training units and partners for potential efficiencies in training delivery.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

University degree in any recognized subject area (e.g. International Relations, Development Studies, Political Science, Social Sciences). Qualifications in adult learning and/or training. An appropriate mix of vocational training and professional experience may be an acceptable alternative.

Experience:

• Minimum of 7 years’ experience in the design and facilitation of participatory training. Experience creating and facilitating interactive online workshops and blended learning solutions essential
• Demonstrated experience in working across all phases of learning design and delivery
• Demonstrated experience in working with latest tools and virtual environments for online training delivery and collaboration (e.g. Zoom, Miro, Microsoft Teams, Google Jamboard, Mural)
• Track record in leveraging learning technology in the design and delivery of learning programmes
• Experience in working with subject matter experts to build learning programs and performance support tools across a range of functional areas

OTHER SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

Languages:

Fluency in oral and written English is essential. Intermediate knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or Portuguese (one of WFP’s working languages) is desirable.

Knowledge & Skills:

• Excellent facilitation skills. Adept at catering to all learning styles and bringing cross-cultural groups together through interactive learning experiences.
• In-depth expertise and application of models of learning design/adult learning theory; learning needs analysis and learning evaluation methods.
• Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with subject matter experts across business functions, levels, and geographical areas.
• Able to quickly build knowledge and understanding of organisational needs and translate them into learning solutions.
• Intermediate to advanced level technical competence across a range of online learning tools
• Strong creative problems solving skills; agile, flexible, and patient; ability to work with ambiguity, constructive approach to overcoming challenges, and build consensus across diverse and global teams.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

Work experience in the UN System, NGOs, or INGOs.

Knowledgeable on recent trends in online learning design and delivery
