This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

The flagship projects will collectively improve the capacity of Member States to prepare, detect and respond to public health emergencies. They will build upon existing infrastructure to put in place a well-organized partner support system that augments national capacity when needed, incorporating lessons learned from COVID-19, Ebola and other health emergencies. Initially implemented in select countries, they will be scaled up regionally over five years.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of EPR Training Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Click or tap here to enter text. will:

  1. Administer training needs assessments,
  2. Gauge skills shortages, and then address these through tailored training sessions.
  3. Ensure the effectiveness of instruction by monitoring performance post-training.
  4. In line with the EPR WHO/AFRO flagship projects, support countries to manage, plan and conduct the training activities outlined in the 3-Flagship Projects.
  5. Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Results/expected outputs

  1. Training needs assessment conducted, and gaps identified
  2. Country adaptation, and ownership of training tools, templates, materials, and curriculums
  3. Training activities planning and implementation

Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills; • Accuracy and professionalism in document production and editing; • Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including grassroots community members, religious and youth organizations, and authorities at different levels; familiarity with tools and approaches of communications for development; • Ability to work and adapt professionally and effectively in a challenging environment; ability to work effectively in a multicultural team of international and national personnel; • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment; • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;

• Must have excellent planning skills. Be able to gauge where SURGE Team Members need further training and how to appropriately provide this training. • Ability to conduct thorough needs assessments to gauge training needs. • Excellent and demonstrated writing, oral presentation and communication skills • Ability to convey complex information in an understandable way. • Extensive knowledge of various teaching methods. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office. • Capable of working under high pressure and tight time constraints • Focussed on quality with attention to details • Analysis and troubleshooting skills, with aptitude and sound judgement for creative problem solving • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook

The assignment will take place in the nation’s capital, Dakar, a family duty station (Hardship classification A) with missions to the region. Dakar is a liveable city. The spontaneous reception and hospitality of the Senegalese is among the characteristic features of this West African country. The living conditions in Dakar are good, as well as the access to health services. The yellow fever vaccine is compulsory and vaccination cards should be presented at the entrance. Vaccinations against Meningococcal Meningitis and Hepatitis A and B are also recommended. The basic drugs are available in pharmacies but it is recommended to bring specific prescription drugs.

According to ANSD/RGPHAE 2013 official estimates, the population of Dakar metropolitan area reaches over 3.1 million people. The total population of Senegal is 13.508.715 inhabitants (ANSD 2013). Senegal is located on UTC/ GMT. Senegal has warm climate and sunny days throughout the year that make it a comfortable duty station. Daytime temperatures are on average around 30°C. Rainy season is in the northern hemisphere’s summer/fall.

The currency used in Senegal is called Franc CFA (XOF). On 28th May 2018 the average exchange rate is 1 USD = 563.28 XOF. Many hotels, restaurants and businesses in Senegal accept the main international credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc.). It is also possible to withdraw cash from automatic telling machines found in all the major cities. The accommodation facilities are in general good and the choice is wide. It is possible to rent unfurnished and furnished accommodations from 450 to 2000 USD. UN Volunteers can also co-rent and share private accommodations, which must comply with Minimum Operating Residential Security Standards (MORSS). Transportation in town can be easily arranged through local taxis.

To enter Senegal, a valid passport is required. ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) nationals are not required an entry visa. Nationals of other countries may be required an entry visa or long stay visa. They should contact the closest Senegalese representation. Senegalese Embassies and consulates in various West African countries and in other parts of the world issue visas prior to travel.
