In 2020, UNICEF in Serbia and the Ministry of Education (MoE) with the support from the European Union, started the project “Bridging digital divide in Serbia for most vulnerable children” with the overall objective to strengthen the resilience of the education system to equitably serve all children’s access to learning during times of emergency, with a particular focus on Roma children. The intervention builds on previous achievements in the development of quality inclusive education and digitalization in education and encompasses activities for further system strengthening at the national and school level.

After the initial adaptation of schools to distance learning in 2020, Serbian educational authorities instructed schools to work on introducing a learning management system, as a central place where all online teaching communication and learning takes place. In order for all teachers and students to use the system smoothly, it is necessary that there is a person in the school who provides technical support in case of problems with the implementation of online education and administers the school's learning management system (establishes online classrooms, assigns teachers and enrols students, etc.).

The purpose of this assignment is to train 500 school professionals for Moodle administration through the already developed online training ‘Training of school administrators of primary and secondary schools to work in the Moodle learning management system’.

Work Assignment Overview:

Under the general guidance and direction of the UNICEF Education Programme, MoE and the Institute for Education Quality and Evaluation, the consultant shall be responsible to strengthen the capacities for the administration of Moodle learning management system by implementing and moderating the existing online training for 500 school professionals.

Duration of the assignment: June – September 2023 (part-time, home-based)

Task description:

Implement and moderate the existing online training course on Moodle administration. The training programme is available online with fully developed training materials. The training lasts 4 weeks - in total 32 hours for participants. It entails developing competencies in terms of:

  • creating courses, setting the language of the course, including tracking the completion of activities, enrolling teachers in courses, setting the course start and end, as well as the visibility of the course;
  • enrolment of classes in courses (online classrooms) of specific teachers - work with cohorts, disenrollment of students from the existing course, enrolment of new students in the existing course;
  • creating backup versions of courses and reinstalling them, inserting new modules into existing courses;
  • final test and practical task: work on the national My school platform school Moodle and reporting on what has been done.

Deliverables:

Report and analytics on the training implemented with 500 school-level Moodle administrators.

Knowledge/Expertise/Skills required:

  • University degree in Science (including Social sciences), Humanities, Technology, or Mathematics;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in using Moodle platform as a teacher and as an administrator;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in developing and/or implementing training courses on using the Moodle platform;
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills;
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines through excellent time management and organization skills;
  • Good knowledge of Serbian and English languages;
  • Work experience with UNICEF and /or other international organizations would be considered as an advantage.
